Who is your favorite minor character?
Possibly Calving Tower. He was a really likeable character in this book
    Spoiler:
He was rather irritating and somewhat weak in the later books wasn't he? I can understand why, and it was realistic, but it's a shame in some ways. That whole sequence up unto the parking lot was magical.

    Name three memorable moments?
Jake and the Rose (and the whole optimistic sequence leading up to that.)
    Jake's birth into Mid-World.
Much of the stuff in Ludd. I suppose I should narrow that down? Difficult to say as we've got Blaine, Tick-Tock..., Luddites.... Ok, I'm going to be contrary and pick a memorable moment I bet many missed. Susannah and Eddie's first confrontation with the Pube's. The first time they really stood out as gunslingers. (True there was Shardik, but that was kinda like training. This was putting that whole role into action.)

Was there a shocking moment for you in this book?
Probably Gasher pushing his groin against Jake's bum and saying something rather rude. That or the Susannah demon shagging. I think the latter if I have to pick one.

Best villain in the Waste Lands?
This is a tough one, as there are a few great villains in this one. I'm tempted to say RF. I think this is one of the most enjoyable incarnations of the Dark Man in the whole series, reminscent of his incarnation in The Stand. It's mainly a cameo though, so I guess I'll go with The Tick-tock man. (Gasher was a great character too, as was Blaine, but as a villain, gotta go with ticky.)

The ka-tet comes together and works together. What was the best part of the new found team work?
Likely the whole Ludd incident. One member is taken. The rest split up and do what needs to be done, find Blaine and rescue Jake. Great team work, even though they were apart.

Eddie and Susannah in Lud or Jake and Gasher running underground?
Tough, one... think I'll go with Eddie and Susannah. Running through the tunnels got a bit monotonous, although I liked the humor in the Gasher sequence, particularly the singing part.

Roland teaching Susannah how to shoot or Roland teaching Eddie how to shoot at the portal?
Ooh. Can I like them both? I suppose Eddie's was the most dramatic, but there was something sexy about the gunslinger lady quoting her mantra and letting rip. (With her gun I mean, not passing wind. The latter could be useful in taking out ambushers approaching from behind though, I suppose.)

    Most touching moment?
    Probably Jake reuniting with Roland.

Most unlikable moment in the book.
I pretty much liked all the book. If I had to pick one though... probably Oy tapping his paw when Roland asks him how many Greys are on the other side of the door. It was cute, and I liked Roland utilizing Oy's help in tracking Jake, but that bit was like Lassie on acid.

Wow, reading through this thread made me realize just how much of this book I've forgotten! A lot of it's coming back to me now, though...

Who is your favorite minor character?
    Gasher, I think.

    Name three memorable moments?
"I told her about that laugh!"
    Gasher beating up Jake.
    The drawing of Jake.

Was there a shocking moment for you in this book?
When Detta Walker wouldn't let the demon out of her!

    Best villain in the Wastlands?
TICK TOCK MAN! Without a doubt.

The ka-tet comes together and works together. What was the best part of the new found team work?
Well, I just like the friendship between them all. Does that count as part of the teamwork?

Eddie and Susannah in Lud or Jake and Gasher running underground?
    Jake and Gasher.

Roland teaching Susannah how to shoot or Roland teaching Eddie how to shoot at the portal?
Don't remember. I wasn't especially interested in either of these parts.

    Most touching moment?
I don't know... Roland saving Jake, I guess.
Have you heard of people with short fuses? Well, I have no fuse at all, and there's a thousand could testify to it if I hadn't stilled their tongues for good.

Petra Jesserling...probably a guy thing, dedicated circuits, and all.

    Name three memorable moments?
So many...when Petra whispered to Jake, "take me in there with you next time".
When the old bucks were setting up the tables.
When Roland called one of the old ladies Old Mother.

Was there a shocking moment for you in this book?
When Andrew threw his knife and killed the lady for laughing, or when the barrel-chested giant tossed the good folk of Lud into the stamping press, and they lined up with smiles.
    Best villain in the Wastlands?
    Tick-Tock, Andrew Quick, w/Gasher a close second.

The ka-tet comes together and works together. What was the best part of the new found team work?
    Drawing Jake.

Eddie and Susannah in Lud or Jake and Gasher running underground?
    Nicely ambiguous.

Roland teaching Susannah how to shoot or Roland teaching Eddie how to shoot at the portal?

Roland teaching Eddie. There's something to be said for how he taught Susannah, and I can't quite put my finger on it...something to do with Blaine emancipating Patricia...or something...or Lud, and what it became, and how.

    Most touching moment?
Quite a few, hey? Anything with Oy. When Talitha Unwin gave Roland a silver cross.
When Roland show some humor and tells Eddie and Jake he thought they fell in the quickpit.

    Aunt Talitha

    Name three memorable moments?
Jake's comeback; Oy's arrival to the ka-tet; Eddie vs. Blaine

Was there a shocking moment for you in this book?
Not the text itself, but the pictures! I was totally freaked out of that picture of pterodactyl-like monsters or whatever they were. argh.

    Best villain in the Wastlands?
    Blaine. Period.

The ka-tet comes together and works together. What was the best part of the new found team work?
    At the collapsing bridge.

Eddie and Susannah in Lud or Jake and Gasher running underground?
Eddie and Susannah. Gasher's character somehow lacked depth.. or something. I just didn't like him.

Roland teaching Susannah how to shoot or Roland teaching Eddie how to shoot at the portal?
Susannah. It brought a smile to my face.

    Most touching moment?
All the scenes with Roland and Oy.

"...neither the stupid jokes nor the easy surface emotions were the truth of Cuthbert Allgood."

    Name three memorable moments?
    Shardik
    Drawing of Jake
    Lud/Blaine

Was there a shocking moment for you in this book?
Susannah & the demon. Although when Roland curses out Blaine is a shocking moment as well. Probably one of my favorites.

    Best villain in the Wastlands?
    Blaine is a pain.

The ka-tet comes together and works together. What was the best part of the new found team work?
I would say drawing Jake, and all that led to that moment.

Eddie and Susannah in Lud or Jake and Gasher running underground?
While I loved the "lost in Lud" part of the book, I felt Jake's terror when he was being raced to the Tick-Tock Man.

Roland teaching Susannah how to shoot or Roland teaching Eddie how to shoot at the portal?
Good one. I would say Susannah, since it was a quiet moment that really showed what it was like to learn to be a Gunslinger.

    Most touching moment?
When they are all reunited before the train ride to/from hell.

Who is your favorite minor character?
Greta Shaw. I liked that she cared about Jake but wasn't a surrogate mother to him.

    Name three memorable moments?
Roland screaming Jake's name in his sleep.
    Jake's confrontation with his parents.
Jake's drawing. The key point of the early part of the series, IMO.

Was there a shocking moment for you in this book?
When it ended so abruptly, with the characters still in danger. And having to wait years for the resolution.

    Best villain in the Wastlands?
Blaine was more interesting, but Gasher was a nasty abusive pedophile. I'm glad they're both dead.

The ka-tet comes together and works together. What was the best part of the new found team work?
Hard choice. Both instances (Jake's drawing and Lud) are so well done ... I'd have to say Lud, 'cause its the entire ka-tet, with Oy included.

Eddie and Susannah in Lud or Jake and Gasher running underground?
Neither. Roland and Oy. I loved seeing little bits of Roland's training, his worry for Jake, and both of their detremination to get Jake back.

Roland teaching Susannah how to shoot or Roland teaching Eddie how to shoot at the portal?

Roland and Susannah. In retrospect I like it because it's the first time we ever get to really "meet" Susannah instead of Detta/Odetta, and b/c Roland Susannah don't have as many one on one scenes as Roland and Jake or Roland and Eddie ... at least, in the early books.

    Most touching moment?

Roland and Jake's reunion. I'd been waiting for it since book two. Not just the moment itself, but everything they had to suffer to find each other again.

Who is your favorite minor character?

Young Henry Dean. Very interesting and realistic character.

    Name three memorable moments?

    > The fight in the forest against Shardick and the gunslinger training against the small robots.
    > Jake's painful run under Lud.
    > Boarding Blaine!

Was there a shocking moment for you in this book?

    > What Gasher planned to do to Jake...

    Best villain in the Wastlands?

    > Blaine, Blaine, Blaine. Power, cleverness and a somehow very dark humour I'm very sensitive to

The ka-tet comes together and works together. What was the best part of the new found team work?

    > Jake's rebirth. Each one has his role, his mission to accomplish and the failure of one would have caused the death of all. That's what I call teamwork!

Eddie and Susannah in Lud or Jake and Gasher running underground?

    > Jake and Gasher running in the junk labyrinth.

Roland teaching Susannah how to shoot or Roland teaching Eddie how to shoot at the portal?

    > I think the Susannah part described very well how she becomes a gunslinger, or at least an apprentice. The lesson, the aiming and the fight straight away. That msut be a very efficient way of learning...

    Most touching moment?

I agree with everyone else, it's Roland and Jake being together again.
-What do we usually do about bad things that aren't of our concern?
    -Well...we laught about it.
-Then, my friend, once you're in the grave death might be a lot more fun than what we expect.

    Blaine liberating Patricia without remorse.

    Blaine.

The ka-tet comes together and works together. What was the best part of the new found team work?
    The riddles.

Both. Jake and Gasher left more memories in me.

Roland teaching Susannah how to shoot or Roland teaching Eddie how to shoot at the portal?
    Roland teaching Susannah.

    Most touching moment?
When Aunt Talitha gives her pendant to Roland for him to put it at the base of the Tower.

Jake and Gasher. I really hate Susannah!

Roland teaching Susannah how to shoot or Roland teaching Eddie how to shoot at the portal?

Who is your favorite minor character?
Jake's English teacher. Her comment on his essay was just win.

    Name three memorable moments?
    Reading Jake's essay
    Jake's drawing
"I've told her about that laugh"

"Kill if you will, but command me not!" Enough said.

Was there a shocking moment for you in this book?
When Roland told Blaine off, gunslinger style. And the end. I had no idea it was going to end on such a cliffhanger--I'm just glad I came to this party so late, and will be able to read on shortly.

    Best villain in the Wastlands?
I really can't decide between Tick Tock and Blaine. I find Tick Tock more engaging and frightening, but Blaine is (I think) more intelligent and evil.

The ka-tet comes together and works together. What was the best part of the new found team work?
The tension/growing respect between Eddie and Roland.

Eddie and Susannah in Lud or Jake and Gasher running underground?
Eddie and Susannah in Lud. The commentary on what those people have become is fascinating, and, as someone else said, the embodiment of what it means that the world has moved on.

Roland teaching Susannah how to shoot or Roland teaching Eddie how to shoot at the portal?
    Susannah.

    Most touching moment?
Roland and Jake reuniting. He really does have feelings for that boy.

Who is your favorite minor character?
    Gasher

    Name three memorable moments?
    1) Jake in the Tick-Tock Man's den, so suspenseful
    2) Jake's drawing and his emotional reunion with Roland
    3) The arrival of Gasher. It was so relieving when they survived the near tragedy of losing Oy and Jake, and then when you think everything's okay, Gasher arrives and screws it all up.

Was there a shocking moment for you in this book?
Jake's drawing had a lot of surprises on both ends, in the haunted house as well as with the demon and Susannah.

    Best villain in the Wastlands?
    Tick Tock

The ka-tet comes together and works together. What was the best part of the new found team work?
Kinda just how they slowly developed a bond between all of them. Roland realizes that Eddie is more than just a pawn and he's actually a respectable ally, Jake's new relationships with Eddie and Susannah, but more than anything how Oy is treated by Jake and how Roland, who is initially skeptical of Oy, trusts him to find Jake and Gasher.

Eddie and Susannah in Lud or Jake and Gasher running underground?
Jake and Gasher because of the terror and tension

Roland teaching Susannah how to shoot or Roland teaching Eddie how to shoot at the portal?
Teaching Eddie, probably because I enjoy anything with Roland and Eddie interacting

    Most touching moment?
Anytime Jake burst into tears because it showed that this strong kid was still a kid. But probably Oy feeling so sorry after hurting Jake so he didn't fall and die.

Best part of the new found team?

    Saving Oy on the bridge

Eddie and Susannah in Lud or Jake and Gasher running underground?

    Jake, Gasher, Roland and Oy

Roland teaching Susannah or Roland teaching Eddie how to shoot?

Either I guess, probably my least favorite parts

    Gasher's sexual overtures

Who is your favorite minor character?
    Blaine. Enough said.

    Name three memorable moments?
When Eddie and Susannah first enter the Cradle
    Blaine's awakening
Jake entering the mansion and eluding the gatekeeper

    Best villain in the Wastlands?
    Blaine!

The ka-tet comes together and works together. What was the best part of the new found team work?
That they acted like a family. When Susannah covered Jake's face with kisses after Roland retrieved him from Gasher/Tick Tock Man .. priceless.
