I like alot of the songs that are actually mentioned in DT - like Summer In The City and of course Bad Company's Bad Company. The lyrics could have been written about the ka-tet, its amazing. Plus, some members of Bad Company - who were also originally in Free - were also in a group called King Crimson and had an album called In The Court Of The Crimson King.

    J'ARRIVE

    A chaque fois surnuméraire
    J'arrive j'arrive

Don't forget their song in that album The Court of the Crimson King

    The dance of the puppets
The rusted chains of prison moons
    Are shattered by the sun.
I walk a road, horizons change
    The tournaments begun.
The purple piper plays his tune,
    The choir softly sing;
Three lullabies in an ancient tongue,
For the court of the Crimson King.

The keeper of the city keys
    Put shutters on the dreams.
I wait outside the pilgrims door
    With insufficient schemes.
    The black queen chants
    The funeral march,
    The cracked brass bells will ring;
To summon back the fire witch
To the court of the Crimson King.

    The gardener plants an evergreen
    Whilst trampling on a flower.
I chase the wind of a prism ship
To taste the sweet and sour.
    The pattern juggler lifts his hand;
    The orchestra begin.
As slowly turns the grinding wheel
In the court of the Crimson King.

On soft gray mornings widows cry
    The wise men share a joke;
I run to grasp divining signs
    To satisfy the hoax.
The yellow jester does not play
    But gentle pulls the strings
And smiles as the puppets dance
In the court of the Crimson King.
"It's his eyes, Roland thought. They were wide and terrible, the eyes of a dragon in human form" - Roland seeing the Crimson King for the first time.

"When the King comes and the Tower falls, sai, all such pretty things as yours will be broken. Then there will be darkness and nothing but the howl of Discordia and the cries of the can toi" - From Song of Susannah

I hope Aesculapius comes in here to post. he is a big Tool fan and knows the lyrics forwards and backwards. He has told me in the past how much tool reminds him of the dark tower. Maybe he can post some of his favorite lyrics.

    not T00L, but close enough:

    The Hollow - Aperfectcircle

    run, desire, run
    a sexual being
    run him like a blade
to and through the heart, no conscience
one motive: cater to the hollow

    screaming feed me here
    fill me up again
    temporarily pacify this hungering
    so grow, libido
    throw
    dominoes of indiscretions down
falling all around in cycles, in circles
    constantly consuming
    conquer and devour

'cause its time to bring a fire down
    throttle all this indiscretion
    long enough to edify
    and permanently fill this hollow

    screaming feed me here
    fill me up again
    temporarily pacifying
    feed me here
    fill me up again
    temporarily pacifying
Momma told me there would be DAYS like this. SHe is coming back around, though...to put things back the way they should be. HIS story? Nah...we've had enough of that.

After my second read through the series, I kept hearing music to fit certain images and scenes from the stories. Here's what I came up with just for the heck of it.

    1. Vespertilio - Batman Begins - "Opening Credits"

    2. The Abyss - Stryper, To Hell With the Devil - "The Man In Black Fled Across the Desert"

    3. Myotis - Batman Begins - "Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger" - the picture in my head is Roland shooting up the town of Tull in the first book.

    4. "The Wardrobe" - Chronicles of Narnia - "Jake Chambers of New York, 1977"

    5. I forget the name but it's a great one from the Stigmata sountrack - "Eddie Dean of New York, 1987"

    6. "Immolation Scene" - Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith - "Wizard and Glass: Charyou Tree" - The image is of Susan being burned at the stake at the end of book 4.

    7. "At Land's End" - Resurrection Band, Lament - "Ka-Tet, One From Many" - music and lyrics fit PERFECTLY. I hear this one as Roland and company are traveling along I-70 in book 4 after having escaped Blaine the monorail, and Roland is getting ready to tell them about Susan.

    8. "Arthur's Farewell" - First Knight (the music with the final battle scene if you have the movie) - "Wolves, Last Comes Gunfire" from Wolves of the Calla (the end of book 5)

    9. "The Last Battle" - Chronicles of Narnia - "Saving the Beams" (from book seven - one of the most incredible scenes in the series)

    10. "Death of Jonathan Kent" - Superman soundtrack - "Susannah Says Goodbye" from book seven (don't worry, I haven't spoiled anything)

    11. "Anakin's Dark Deeds" - Revenge of the Sith - "Crimson King" - from book seven

    12. "Molossus" - Batman Begins - "Ascent of the Tower" - book seven

    13. "Who Wants To Live Forever" - Queen - "End Credits"

I don't like to listen to music when I read, so I can focus more on the book. Its a cool thread though. Wish I had a song to contribute.

I never listen to music when I read either. I do have a "Dark Tower playlist" though...songs from the series and about the series.

The same here. Anyway I can read anywhere (in a crowded bus or in the middle of a concert) but I do prefer silence.

    Roland would have understood.

i love to listen to music when i read, but only instrumental music, words are too distracting when i am reading. i have a LOT of music which i think goes well with the Tower but I suspect few people other than Frunobulax would have a clue who I was talking about should I start naming some of it.

i can't listen to anything but classical when i read, i get distracted and sing along...
but if they were to make a movie, here's the end credits in my head:
    knights of cydonia by muse.
plus, if you watch them music video, it's a western - i didn't know that when i first heard it but that's always how i imagined it. works out quite perfectly imo

I can't listen to music while I'm reading. But, if I listen to music later, the story is still in my mind, which I permanently link to the books.

    Crimson King

    By Demons and Wizards

    Discordia! Discordia!
    Show me your banner
    Come show me your sign
    The Crimson King's eye
Is the mark to reveal you are mine
    I am your master
I will make your dreams come true
    I'm your messiah
A twisted one as you may know

    My right hands, my servants
    My soldiers, my tools
    Spread out the good news
Find my children and gather them all
    We'll take all low men
    All the hatred, evil souls
    We share one desire
A wicked one as you may know

    Touched by the Crimson King
    Touched by the Savior
The tower falls on Judgement Day
    Touched by the Crimson King
    Touched by the Saviour
Like it's been written many years ago

I am the angel I am madness
I am the word I am the law
I am holding truth release your sadness
I am the key I am the door
    Release!
    Oh there is
    War and evil
    Whores and sinners
Take my hand and I show you
    Where to go
    Call me Flagg
    I'm the Good Man
    I'm the Dark Man
    Take my hand and
I show you where to go
    Release!
    Come take my hand
    To the promised land

    Redeemer
    Deceiver
    The demon
    The man in black

    The universe is void
    Just you and I
    Let there be light
    The stars will rise
    Then fall again
    Climbing to the top
    An empty room
    Is all there is
    Oh I fear it is
Prophecies were made of you and I
    The vision's strong
    But meanwhile keep on falling
Oh what a miracle is life
An even bigger one is size
It's just the way it is
    I fear it is
It's just the way it is

    Life's a wheel nothing more
It goes round and around and a...
    I am the ageless
    I am "Legion"
    I'm your lord
    I will bring terror
    I'm a demon in disguise
    The thrill of a thousand
    Worlds dying at once
    But my ultimate goal
    Lies beyond the downfall

    Touched by the Crimson King
    Touched by the Saviour
The tower falls on Judgement Day
    Touched by the Crimson King
    Touched by the Saviour
Like it's been written many years ago

    The Gunslinger

    by Demons and Wizards

    Songs to sing....

    Song of turtle
And the cry of the bear
    Awake
    I can sense it
    Still I'm afraid
    Tower road lies ahead
    Commala-come-ka
    Ka has come to me
    Grey old fellow
If you finally fail the test
    What would it mean?
    We 're getting near
    We 're getting near
    Maid of sorrow
    Your time goes by

    Fade away
    Fade....

"Say thank, ya'" for the beams are safe my friend
Long days and pleasant nights to you"

    Save me,
    The final chord
Don't let it end like this
    No, not like this
    Tell me
When things were finally getting out of hand
    It's out of hand

    Entangled, I am captured
You have put a spell on me
    The last in line
    Gunslinger's line

    The sacrifice of innocence
This work needs to be done
    Now blow the horn
    Hail to the gun!

    Done is done
Yes, there will be no taking back
Every journey must come to an end
    All hail to the gunslinger
Praise to the Dinh and the King
Beyond our reach, out of control

    Save me
To touch the rose it will not bring release
    No taking back
    Come save me
    There are other worlds
    But surely none like this!
    The world has changed

    Done is done
Yes there will be no taking back
    The word is the law
    Law is Ka

The end of the road lies
    Straight ahead its lies
    I'm feeling pure
The end of the road lies......

    The sacrifice of innocence
    The hailing of the gun
My Way was Death and madness
    Now let the tower come

    Done is done
Yes, there will be no taking back
Every journey must come to an end
    All hail to the gunslinger
Praise to the Dinh and the King
Beyond our reach, out of control

Again, J.R. Flynn. He wrote a DT score. Go to iTunes and check him out. His fanfare is BANG ON for Roland, IMHO.

I tried Flynn but I was not really a big fan. Some of them are ok but overall it sounds too video game to me.

i'm with monte here, it sounds like video games or old midi files... though i think it's a noble attempt.
roland's theme specifically - try to imagine it with strings instead of how it sounds now... potential? maybe?

It would probably be way cool with strings.

I also had songs that reminded me of the books very much, and when i lsiten to them i also get the feeling that i got at the end. The two songs that spring to mind are "The Fallen Angel" by Iron Maiden.

You and only god will know
    What can be done?
you and only god will know
    I am the only one.
you and only god will know
    I am the chosen one.

Could it be it's the end of our world?
All the things that we charish and Love
Nothing left but to face this all of my own
cause I am the chosen one.

    Rainmaker, also by Iron Maiden.

When I was wandering in the desert,
And was searching for the truth
I heard a choir of angels calling out my name,
I had the feeling that my life would never be the same again
I turn my face towards the barren sun

And I know of the pain that you feel the same as me,
And I dream of the rain as it falls upon the leaves
And the cracks in our lives like the cracks upon the ground,
They are sealed and are now washed away

You tell me we can start the rain
You tell me that we all can change
You tell me we can find something to wash the tears away,
You tell me we can start the rain
You tell me that we all can change
You tell me we can find something to wash the tears...

And I know of the pain that you feel the same as me,
And I dream of the rain as it falls upon the leaves
And the cracks in the ground like the cracks are in our lives,
They are sealed and now far away

You tell me we can start the rain
You tell me that we all can change
You tell me we can find something to wash the tears away,
You tell me we can start the rain
You tell me that we all can change
You tell me we can find something to wash the tears...

And I know of the pain that you feel the same as me,
And I dream of the rain as it falls upon the leaves
And the cracks in the ground like the cracks are in our lives,
They are sealed and now far away
