not exactly Doctor Who related but here's a reasonable theory
Sooo... the Sensorites and the Silence. Totally cousins, right?
I'm tempted to watch all the Christmas specials today and tomorrow. I DID watch David Tenant in Nativity 2 on Netflix and pretended he was The Doctor for most of it...
Actually, yes, to an extent: they even acknowledged that the Ood-Sphere was in the exact same solar system as the Sense-Sphere in Planet of the Ood, a reference I really appreciated.
And flipping heck, you're going through them quick! What are your thoughts on the season so far, then? Any particular favourites? Personal one for me is The Aztecs - thought it gave Barbara some really great character development. Also: "Who gave you this?" "My fiancé." "I see...your what?!" "Yes, I was making cocoa, and got engaged."

Merry Christmas, fellow Whovians! To celebrate, I've ordered a fresh subscription to the excellent range of Big Finish's audio productions, and now listening to subscriber bonus, The Trial of the The Valeyard. Such a perfect gift for a hardcore fan like me, as it's a sequel to tv serial The Trial of a Time Lord and seems to be exploring a few loose ends from the story, including how the Valeyard came to be. Great listening so far, especially the Doctor confronting the Valeyard proper this time.
Spoiler:
Also, my copy of previously lost Troughton story The Enemy of the World arrived yesterday. Surprised it arrived so quickly, considering I only ordered it a couple of days ago. Really eager to watch this. 5 episodes of Patrick Troughton that I've never seen before (I'd seen episode 3 before).
Spoiler:
The Web of Fear is also out soon. I can't wait.
And last but certainly not least: just hours to go until The Time of the Doctor. I can't believe it's arrived so quickly - I'm still recovering from the 50th anniversary. I haven't even finished typing up my blog on it, yet! I'm feeling so many mixed emotions right now. Mostly anticipation and sadness. Anticipation for a lot of things, including seeing all the ongoing plotlines that have started since The Eleventh Hour all wrapped up, and yes, Peter Capaldi's first scene is something I'm especially looking forward to...but I'm also sad to say goodbye to Matt Smith. He's been a marvellous Doctor, and while watching my Doctor regenerate last month at last was hugely emotional, I had the consolation that, like the previous decade, I had plenty of audio adventures from him to look forward to along with the rest of the classic Doctors. With Smith, there's no immediate consolation. Once he goes, barring perhaps the occasional special, that's it, he's gone for good. And considering how much his performance in the role has really grown on me to become one of my favourites, I know I'm really gonna miss him. Still, Capaldi. One of my favourite actors. Like I said, at least that's something to look forward to.

I remember when smith first came on and I was like meh...then after watching all of his seasons I realized that he has become one of my favorite doctors. To be honest for some reason he reminded me of 4 and I guess that is why I liked him so much...lol...(4 was my first and favorite classic doctor).
Does whatever a spiderman does.
2 for me. That's who Smith reminded me of most. In actual fact, after watching Time last night, I put on The Enemy of the World, and the first scene of Troughton's Doctor arriving at a beach and saying, "Let's get a bucket and spade!" was so adorable.
As for Time of the Doctor, what I enjoyed the most was how well it tied up the whole of the 11th Doctor's era beautifully, tying together strands from The Eleventh Hour all the way to The Day of the Doctor, particularly everything regarding the Silence and mostly resolving it in a satisfactory way.Spoiler:
I'm watching it again right now, but I'll try and write a blog on it later. Overall, while I didn't enjoy it quite as much as Night or Day of the Doctor, I thought it was a great ending to the 11th Doctor, and in my list of favourite regeneration stories, I'd probably place it 5th. (Which doesn't sound like much, but considering how much I love Caves of Androzani, Parting of the Ways, Night of the Doctor and The War Games, that's very high praise, coming from me.)

i was expecting something a little more darker for Capaldi's entrance
I enjoyed the episode for the most part, but that regeneration scene was horrible. Did anyone else think that? He starts to change outside, but then inside he's miraculously younger, then we see Amy again... then he suddenly changes into another person in the blink of an eye. I wish they at least drew out that last part. I always loved seeing the regeneration taking place, but we didn't really get that this time.
When do we get more Who, is it not until next fall when the new season will start? I'm really excited about the new Doctor, and can't wait to see more of him.
Only the gentle are ever really strong.
I had a problem with the rapid change at first, but it complimented Matt's final speech beautifully, of how we all change "in the blink of an eye". 11 hallucinating Amy was also a nice touch, especially as its happened with previous regenerations. It's not the best - it's certainly not the heavily emotional Night of the Doctor - but I enjoyed 11's final speech at least, and preferred it a lot more to Tennant's "I don't want to go."
As for how Capaldi will be as the Doctor, well, maybe this will give us an idea.

In Digitized Remorse
I was a little underwhelmed with this episode. There was parts that confused me, and parts that didn't make a lot of sense to me.
Spoiler:
And other stuff was not adding up for me as well. I'm not going to nit-pick, because I need to just take it for what it is. Overall I still liked it, I just felt it wasn't the best.

There's logic in nonsense.
Give me all the bacon and eggs you have.
I think most of my enjoyment came from the fact that a lot of the most nagging questions of the Moffat era - such as the Cracks, the TARDIS exploding and the Silence's motives - were finally answered and Smith's exit handled the balance between despair and hope just right. After the End of Time - which I feel RTD really dropped the ball on compared to his excellent Parting of the Ways - Moffat's finale for 11 was a vast improvement. I still preferred Day of the Doctor, and it's definitely not my favourite regeneration story (Hannah, have seen The Caves of Androzani? That is fucking awesome, especially the cliffhanger to part 3, in which the Doctor gives one of the biggest "FUCK YOU!"s in the history of anything ever), but I still really loved it, overall.

I'm trying to get through them as fast as possible... because I don't want to miss out on anything!!
I love the episode... not sure of the exact name... but with the Giants? It reminded me a lot of old Twilight Zone episodes and I felt like at this point I was really "into" the classic characters enough that I "know" them.
Side note, I saw a young boy (13 maybe?) wearing a very Doctor-ish scarf and suit walking through town. I complimented him on it and it seemed to make his day that I recognized the Who wardrobe. It makes me want to get one of those awesome scarves myself... hmm.
Ah, it always brightens my day when I see kids who are Doctor Who fans. That's who it's meant for, after all, and it's one of the reasons why it matters a lot to me, as it was a big part of my childhood. And Planet of Giants! Onto season 2 already! I know what you mean, by that point, the team really have bonded. Which makes the next story all that more poignant.

Loved the Christmas special but so very sad to see Smith go. My first impression of the new Doctor is not a good one - old and ugly. But I'll give him a chance!
Loved the Christmas episode, with the exception of two things:
- The "blink of an eye" regeneration scene. It completely flipped the mood and I didn't like it. My first impression of the Doctor is not a good one
- Amy Pond. Now, don't get me wrong, I loved Amy Pond and her entire storyline. But the last thing the Doctor saw should have been Clara. She is the companion now, and she was completely pushed aside in the end. She was made to seem unimportant.
I have just a small, tiny, little question. And may not seem like much but, Where in the living hell is The fucking Valeyard? I'm pretty sure he was suppose to be between regenerations Twelve and Thirteen.
If you love me then love me..
the Valeyard was the prosecutor of the Doctor in the serial Trial of a Time Lord who was hoping to have him executed and thereby remove the sole witness to their near-destruction of life on Earth
The Master to the sixth Doctor"There is some evil in all of us, Doctor – even you. The Valeyard is an amalgamation of the darker sides of your nature, somewhere between your twelfth and final incarnation, and I may say you do not improve with age."
This is why I hope Big Finish tackle it, so they could give some more answers over what he is. (They almost did in this month's 6th Doctor story Trial of the Valeyard, but the answers given were so vague, that it's impossible to know what the truth is.) But you never know, he could still turn up. Like ff said, the Master didn't say between twelfth and thirteenth, but between twelfth and final. Seriously though, he better be played by Michael Jayston. Seriously, that role belongs to him as much as the Fourth Doctor belongs to Tom Baker. It's another reason why I like to see Big Finish handle it - Jayston can still play the role and you can completely ignore the aging problem.

I know who he is, I'm just wondering why he hasn't shown up yet.
If you love me then love me..
maybe he'll appear in Capaldi's run
I agree with you Dodge. If he shows up he should be played by Michael Jayston.
