Oh, and I was also very deeply moved by the exchange between the Pere and Jake outside the Dixie Pig, before they make their stand:

In fact, the whole Dixie Pig experience is really Jake's defining moment for me. Think about it, a 12 year old boy going in to battle against an army of vampires and horrifying beast-men. The cajones on that kid!

It's when Jake is losing his mind in NY because of the voices and he believes every door will take him back to Roland's world -- so he opens the door to the girls' bathroom, and when the girl asks him what the hell he's doing, he's just so matter of fact about it. "I thought it was the desert."

Just to be clear folks, the quote is not a Stephen King original. It's actually taken from The Magnificent Seven (Steve McQueen's character says it in the film).
Mr King also credits it as such in the book.

I always liked the quote. The way I see it is a friend or lover will always try to spare your feelings, But your enemy will laugh in your face as you suffer.
