One of the lesser volumes in this series, but still worth a look.

Nice. I think Snyder's run on Batman is going to be a classic Batman title.

There's one hole in every revolution, large or small. And it's one word long.. people. No matter how big the idea they all stand under, people are small and weak and cheap and frightened. It's people that kill every revolution.

Garth Ennis - Battlefields Vol. 3 hardcover. Other than Preacher, Battlefields and War Stories are IMO the best things he's ever done. I mean, sure, I like Just a Pilgrim, 303, the first Crossed arc but you can tell he's really passionate about WWII (and a war buff in general). I didn't even finish The Boys and his recent run on Shadow was pretty bad.

Max Brooks - Extinction Parade. On the fence about it. Writing is rock-solid but characters are completely unlikeable, self-serving and self-important vampires. Great art though and the setting (far east) is really cool too.

Also, Space Trucking Co. omnibus from 2000AD. The book is massive and it'll probably take me a year to finish it.

Yes. Everything Batman New 52 with Scott Snyder at the helm is surefire gold. One of the best writers working in comics these days.

Eh, the novelty will wear off soon. They have to shake the status quo to every now and then to pull in new readers but things will inevitably revert back to their original form. I've seen this happen countless times.

I'm not too emotionally invested in DC characters to care too much but I suppose how I felt about the changes would depend on the motivation for them. If it's to expand the characters and to make their mythos even bigger, I'm all for it. I do find it strange that all at once there is female Thor, black Captain America and Muslim Ms. Marvel. If I was reading those titles, I'd keep reading them but I don't see the changes as something interesting enough to make a new reader pick them up.

I just finished Uber and Disenchanted, both from Avatar Press. Both 5 star books. Disenchanted blew me away. It belongs in the Holy Shit! category. It's like if Fables were really, really down on their luck.

Ok, you've got my attention. I think, once I'm all caught up on everything 2000AD (which is a lot, admittedly, including the complete Nemesis and Strontium Dog) and finally get round to finishing off the other Batman collections I've got, I'll make a start on the new Batman run. Death of the Family sounds especially great, I've heard nothing but great things about that one.

This is kind of the main reason why I'm not a heavy DC/Marvel collector, only going for those storylines that everyone raves about. It's also a key reason why 2000AD is the only comic I follow regularly - with a couple of rare exceptions, most of the storylines avoid having any kind of major continuity resets or shakeups. I especially like that characters do age in real time, especially Dredd - like the comic itself, he's 37 years older than when he was first introduced, and it shows. Even more impressive though is after 37 years, co-creator and writer John Wagner not only still writes great stories, but if anything, he's actually gotten better at it, imo. There's a lot of writers or creators out there in general that, after a certain point, lose their touch and run out of ideas when writing particular stories or characters, and yet Wagner has given us so many amazing storylines, especially over the last decade.

Just posted new reviews (pictured) at http://nottooterrible.wordpress.com Close to 50 reviews in just over two months and all the books are from mid-2013 but mostly 2014. And not a single title from the Big Two.

Read Wolverine: Origin, loved it. Then I started the Wolverine: Origins series and ... I'm a little disappointed. I'm about four graphic novels into it, but ... I expected it to be more "back story" and not "The Wolvie and Daken Show, with a little bit of flashbacks thrown in" ...

I didn't like the first issue much... but then it got pretty good after that.

Wordpress deleted my blog. I've heard from other people that they're quick to delete a blog without actually investigating if they should or not, but this was really quick. Maybe some writer was salty after a review? I doubt it because I never posted a negative review. My goal was to get people interested in good books, not to make them avoid the books I didn't like.

All I ever posted were comics and book reviews and links to Amazon, something Wordpress actually promotes. I didn't use foul language, I didn't post anything even remotely obscene. I even used my own images, I bought everything I reviewed or borrowed from the library. I really don't get it. The most frustrating part is that writers have actually gotten in touch with me to say they liked the reviews because they were well-written and went deeper than just plot summary.

I'll probably register a new account with BlogSpot and I might buy a domain name. First I need to see if I can salvage any of the reviews I posted on Wordpress. Grrrr. OK, rant done.

Reading: Y The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughn. It has aged well. It still feels as fresh and inventive as it did more than ten years ago when it came out.

Update: just received an apology from Wordpress for taking it down by mistake. It's online again (and I'm creating back up files.)
