Maybe it is late and I'm not getting it. I thought the "Merlin" post was in reply to the comments made by Tony.

I agree with most of this. However, I don't think I would ever begrudge anyone for trying to purchase on the cheap. If someone is offended they can choose not to do business with that person. That being said, I would think everyone one this site has mutual respect for each other and this would lead to fair offers for buyers and sellers.

I have several items for sale in the Classifieds Thread. Feel free to make me an offer and, if it is lower than what I would like to get, I will politely decline the offer. If no acceptable offers are received, I will list the books on eBay to see if I have luck there.

What am I missing?

Okay - here goes... I was the one that sent the message. If you look at Tony's original post it appears that he is ONLY selling the mallet. why in the world would anyone offer that low on a book? Not even I, the most (in)famous member here would do something that dumb. I have pretty much rebuilt my reputation here with some solid deals (the most recent being the DT Set Acquisition from Dive). I sent Tony a second message as soon as he posted here, apologizing but also saying that his listing wasn't clear, and that his "LOL" response was hardly appropriate. He then updated the listing to include the clarification. At no point did he handle anything with me privately, but instead flamed me here. Oh well, shoulda learned.

I Apologized to Tony privately about my outburst but also, as Tippy pointed to, I got pissed.

I agree with you guys totally. It may be what the person can afford and they are just giving it a shot or it may be what the want to get a certain book at. A kind no thank you is all it takes, no need to get all upset.

Simple solution: Post your ideal prices for items on the Collectible Classifieds board and then (if applicable) say that you are open to negotiation.

I think this is the best solution to preventing issues like this and saving everyone time, thanks (not being sarcastic or anything).

That's how I read it - I always figured it was for both, that's why I didn't make an offer, I already have the book.

The ever vigilant (and never forgetting a harm) Randall Flagg just got off the phone with stevohump. I don't think he was expecting my call (he answered). After identifying myself as being from TheDarkTower.org, I asked him when he was going to reimburse our members; he stuttered, hemmed, hawed and then said "I thought Paypal took care of all that".
I informed him that since all of the payments were sent as gift form no one was reimbursed. I told him that as a group we are so upset that we are going to pay for one of the "injured" members to fly down to his county and file a report with the Sheriff and perhaps pay him a visit to discuss the matter in person.
I asked if he would come on the site and explain himself. He said he would "tomorrow".
