Really? Some groups I can barely manage one vote, and then you throw this one at me? Any one of these films not advancing is a crime. I never could conceive of a scenario where I did not cast a vote for The Searchers, which is the best western ever made. But up against one of the best of Hitchcock, and unquestionably the best of Kurosawa, I guess John Ford gets left out. And that, my friends, is a travesty.

Ikiru is Kurosawa's finest film. Note I did not say "most entertaining." No one gets run through with a samurai sword. But as a comment on the human condition (and government bureaucracy), no film, none, is better.
