I do... I have a fairly extensive collection of the 1/1 trade editions, though I have nothing even close to resembling an early printing of Ender's Game. I also have a couple of the newer limited edition novellas from Subterranean and one signed copy of the Ender In Exile trade.

to be fair i haven't read a LOT of "Piers Anthony" & i don't own 'Porncopia" or the sequel ' A Magic Fart" i think it's called? which is a great title if ya ask me. they don't sell those in stores for obvious reasons. but you can buy them online. & as for say "John Saul" if you read his books back to back

they are about the same subject. teeenage angst, teens who get into trouble well some anyways, it's kinda hard to explain actually. teens are most of the time a main character in this book of his or that book. but than the idea's are different that are used. good author though.

Just a random thought that popped up in my head, but I always smile when I think of the day that a friend of ours came by and saw our book collection for the first time. She inspected our shelves and spotted a few trashed Dan Brown paperbacks, turned around and asked earnestly (and apparently slightly impressed by the fact that we had FOUR copies): "I see you guys collect Dan Brown, eh?", not noticing that said Brown paperbacks were literally surrounded by about 400 King books.

I collected Orson Scott Card until MAGIC STREET came out. His writing just seemed to go way downhill after ENCHANTMENT (with the exception of THE CRYSTAL PALACE, which I loved), so I quit buying his books. I do have a 1st/1st of ENDER'S GAME though, and a proof of SPEAKER FOR THE DEAD among a few signed, limiteds here and there.

dam i wish i had your collection of "Piers Anthony" i used to have his 1st novel on paperback. 1st printing actually. i never got around to finish the damn thing though but unfortunally it fell on the floor or rather it was knocked on the ground while i was at work one day. & a pipe or something burst

one day & ruined the book damn that STILL pisses me off. i have only a couple of his hardbacks but most of them are paperbacks. next time i go to a bookstore i plan on buying some of his hardbacks.

Yeah, I don't buy much of his new stuff either, with the exception of the SP signed novellas, which I usually will pick up on an eBay sale or publisher clearance sale. That's freaking awesome about the 1/1 Ender's Game... I bet that's worth a few bucks. Nice photo too.

I'm tempted (I own the US proofs of the first three HP books) but I don't like to get books that I can't read. That seems like a fair price, though.

If you decide that you want to get it (which would be in certain way, annoying cause then you have to hunt at least the 2 first), i would recommend you to negociate the price.

I am convinced that it wont sell at this price. Not in France for a french item.
Book collectors are rarer than in the US... but of course i could be wrong, because we are talking about Harry Potter...

What do you guys think of the following announcement by Subterranean Press?

In addition to the newer work by Robert McCammon that we’ve been publishing — such as his historical thriller Mister Slaughter or the forthcoming supernatural tinged novel, The Five — we’ve just reached agreement to publish a good number of Rick’s classic titles as signed limited editions, including Baal, Bethany’s Sin, The Night Boat, and They Thirst. They’ll join The Wolf’s Hour, which sold out prior to publication, as essential additions to the libraries of Rick’s most ardent fans.

Look for more information very soon, as we start work on Baal, with the aim of having it, as well as Rick’s other major release, The Hunter from the Woods, out this year.
I must say I'm looking forward to it! It would be nice to get some of McCammon's earlier work in nice, limited editio hardcovers.

I thought McCammon hated his early books...?

And isn't there already a signed/limited of They Thirst from Dark Harvest?

    Other than that, sounds great!

Interesting news about limiteds of McCammon's older novels. The old Swan Song limited is a book that's been on my wish list for a long time. I just hope he stays focused on the Matthew Corbett novels. I'm crazy about those books. They are the best things he's ever written.

I really agree with you about the Matthew Corbett novels. I've read them all twice and am getting the urge to read them again.

I'm not a big fan of these specialty presses and publishers doing S/Ls of older books. I don't know why but it just seems wrong to me. I especially find these "anniversary" S/Ls to be nothing but money grabs. Things like the 10 year anniversary GREEN MILE S/L and DARK FORCES 25th anniversary and on and on seem unnecessary and mercenary. I say give us something fresh and new and quit republishing stuff over and over.

I'm a big McCammon fan/collector. I will probably get the Subterranean Press S/Ls of the older books but I'm not jumping up and down with joy over being taken for yet another ride by another small press.

I see your point and I do agree to a certain extent, but at the same time I'm being pragmatic: I don't have his older works in hardcover format so this will be my chance to get them.

I think McCammon was dissatisfied with the publishing industry for a long time and it seems as if his relationship with SubPress is quite stimulating for him. Maybe he feels as if he has been granted a second chance, to do the books justice.

Maybe it is because I have been collecting a long time and have outgrown my bookshelves and places to put new bookshelves. Of course no one is forcing me to buy the "new" S/Ls of the older novels but I will want them when they are published. It is just the collector in me. I can much more easily find a spot to shelve one new McCammon novel (and its S/L) each year than I can find spots for "a good number of Rick's classic titles as signed limited editions" (all probably coming out within a month or two of each other). Especially since I already have these titles in various forms already (i.e. proofs, UK hardcovers, paperbacks, ARCs). Sometimes I just think enough is enough with redoing all these old books.

I do like Subterranean Press, though, and have bought many of their titles over the years. And I just won one of the proofs of THE FIVE that Sub Press was giving away!
