Agreed, Ralph. I bid a max of $125 based on Jerome's and Cook's remarks. It's almost $225 now. I didn't think even a near perfect/perfect copy would fetch that. Is there something we're missing here?

I think $250-300 is not far fetched for a fine copy. Very hard to find a dj that is not faded, worn or ripped - or all 3.

I will never have the Plant. Even a blank one is a pretty good one to have. If you are selling it, and it's as rare as The Plant, why would you mess it up like that.
I am sure someone would have bought it without some kind of "proof" or S\L. That's just being greedy and messing up a good book.

My copy of Plant 2 proof says "Proof copy". I've never seen one that says P/C either.

I did photograph it, however, and I do my best to ensure my listings are accurate. I decided to check this thread out earlier today and read the posted comments. Then I pulled up my listing and added a disclaimer to deal with this issue. Then I joined thedarktower.org. If anyone would be willing to check out my revised listing, I would really appreciate feedback on this. I bought it on eBay maybe four years ago, and unless someone snuck into my office, found my copy and vandalized it, I bought it that way and never saw the issue. What a lesson.

• Your copy very well may be legitimate, but with thousands of members here, that over time have looked at 100's of thousands of ebay King auctions, your copy seems to be the first of a "The Plant" limited edition marked as "PC". Thus your copy is extremely rare, and thus very valuable, or somewhere along the line someone knowingly and fraudulently marked it as "PC" and greatly devalued the chapbook.

Just a suggestion

Before you lower your price. Go to the university of Orono website in Maine. Email the guy that made them and ask if he labeled any Pc

Huh, and the list we all paid was $125? VFB is making a hefty profit at $395 and they haven't even received the fucking thing!!! lol Guess when I get mine I'll have to move it up to the "Top Shelf" rather than just put it on the regular shelves in it's alphabetical sequence!!! lol lol

And I too am surprised I had not already done that, Mr. Flagg! And thanks, Merlin1958, for amplifying my welcome! I decided to cancel the eBay listing, at least for now. I now know that the likelihood of a previous owner counterfeiting the P/C in my copy of The Plant, Part Two, is so high that I will not put it up for sale. Taking Roseannebarr's recommendation as a first step, I learned that the P/C was not written by the publisher, nor was it done by Mr. King's hand. This means the P/C is counterfeit.

While the existence of the fake P/C is definitely undesirable, I will have to live with it. I don't think I would feel the same way if it was a fake Stephen King signature on an otherwise very valuable first edition. For some reason, having a first edition of any author with a known counterfeit signature on my bookshelf seems repulsive. Not the same feeling I have with this. But it's not great.

In case this is of interest to anyone, Lopez Books has copies of Lighthouse IV and Lighthouse V for sale for $30 for the pair:

Calvin House/Lighthouse Media One, (2005). Two volumes: "Burning Tower Special Limited Editions." Printed in the UK. Each volume has 10-12 articles on King, and each is dedicated to him. Each is fine in wrappers.

I have no idea if this is a good price!
