+1 for me on Hyraxia, always been a pleasure to deal with Simon and his company.
It never ceases to surprise me that Book Dealers get a hard time on prices. It's a business and they only survive by making a profit. They also have considerable costs that most direct sellers do not.
Dealer prices will always be higher than member to member sales, its just a fact. If someone here is selling a book you need right now then enjoy the pricing. If you are looking for a rare book that doesn't show up very often, thank the dealer for searching, inspecting, purchasing, advertising, responding, and then selling it to you.

"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King

Yes, very deep-seated. I apologize for jumping to a quick cynical conclusion about your particular auctions. I'm jaded and generally cynical from years of watching 'the cycle' on eBay: books and artwork being priced too high BIN and not selling, then being sent to auction, and after the auction is over and the items are 'sold,' seeing the very same items relisted back at the original too high BIN by the same seller (in a timeframe that doesn't allow for a return to happen).

Thanks all.
And you're not wrong Firemonkey, there are a good deal of sellers out there who treat it as some sort of game when it's not. A lot of it is restricted to eBay, and that's eBay's fault as much as the sellers. In the EU at least it's illegal, and probably elsewhere too. As is auction ringing. The positive news is that we as a trade under the remit of ILAB are active in seeking such behaviours and act when it's found. But like I say, they're short-lived and rarely make it far.

I bid $11 on one of the books and was immediately outbid.
What gives here, anyway?
I'm sure if there is intelligent life somewhere out there in the universe, they are wise enough to stay away from us.
And the people bowed and prayed, to the cell phone god they made...
If you have two bidders and bidder A has bid $20 and it's currently $10, and bidder B bids $11 eBay will automatically place the next bid on behalf of bidder A, which would be $12.
If you were winning at $11 and then you were outbid shortly thereafter it's most likely that someone was notified and increased their bid.
Which item was it? I'll take a look.

I have put a few bids in. Hopefully I will be successful, but early days.
I have done plenty of business with Simon over the years - King, Gaiman and GRRM books. Always great to work with and communication is wonderful. The shipping and packing is great too. Often I find something on his site or Ebay and just drop him a line. Always upfront - always a pleasure. Sometimes negotiation works - sometimes theres a middle ground. But as others have stated - one of the good ones to work with.

Isn't this a good deal for UK collectors, with just 3 pounds shipping?

I may have to throw a bid or two out there as well. Some wicked cool items. I'm interested to see what the Knowing Darkness AE signed goes for. It's so massive and the market for it is so erratic that it will be interesting.... .
The listing for the CD Doubleday set has an error in the description.
The set is for matching numbers of Carrie, 'Salem's Lot and The Shining.
The set includes the artwork portfolios for Carrie and 'Salem's Lot. It states, "Artwork portfolios for volumes one and two included, no portfolio was produced for volume three."
There is a The Shining artwork portfolio.
