Any one notice how CD was advertising this Grant First Trade Edition?
Here is the question I gave in response "How is this a gift edition? Is it signed/ limited or just a regular first edition? Thanks,"

    And here is there answer:
It's Donald Grant's "limited trade edition" meaning it was printed
at the same time as the signed Limited, but is not signed, but it
did have a "set" print run. Meaning they couldn't go back and
print more if they wanted to. These days, a deluxe trade edition
that has a set print run tends to be a called a "gift edition" in
the small press, but that does vary from place to place. Hope
    that helps!

For the most part I have been a defender of CD knowing when I purchased SOD II that it would be a while before I saw it. This though I think is deceptive, they didn't even post the question/answer on the posting.
I have never understood the term "gift edition." I suspect that very few are bought as gifts for someone else. Most, I think, are bought by collectors for their own collection. I, too, think it is a misleading (and inaccurate) eBay listing.

When Zeising did the S/L Insomnia they also offered a "Gift" Edition, which is what I bought. So I own the Zeising and the Grant Gift Editions (Insomnia and Desperation, respectively). Incidentally, these are the two books that I mailed to King's office oh so many years ago and got personalized - way back when he was doing that sort of thing! They are two of my favorite items!

I often wonder what they are worth personalized, not that I would ever sell of course. They were purchased for $75 each I believe and I think yoyu can still get them easily for this price.

    I can’t remember if I cried
When I read about Eddie’s widowed bride,
And something touched me deep inside

    My input if it helps...

It does NOT look like a 1st printing to me. Here is the cover of my first printing. Notice that the text at the top right of mine and the auction's is different. Mine has less text and is bolder than that of the one pictured in the auction. Mine's not in the best condition, but it IS a 1st printing.

The seller of this one is Cemetary Dance. I have the feeling it's being sold on consignment. Still, not to check if it's a first or not is bogus.

I just love this quote from the auction:
We do not know which edition this book is because the original collector carefully placed it in a plastic wrapper and we do not want to disturb it.
Why the hell would you not want to open it-if it is believed to be a 1st printing?

Like you all, I am quite skeptical. CD is smart enough to know that it is worth opening if they really think it's a 1st edition. Sounds like a strategy of hoping the "mystery" will jack up the bidding.

    Eric - Yea! Exactly.

I wonder what kind of hermetically sealed plastic wrapper it's in ?!?

Even if it is shrinkwrap, they should have the capability of re-wrapping it, given that they are a publisher after all.

Just like the copy of DTIII that was listed as a "gift edition" - they have a way with words that although not completely dishonest, is a bit shaddy.

[Side note, if anyone is looking for a copy of DTIII, I have one in better condition that will likely go for much less than their copy on eBay right now]

Apparently I'm not being too skeptical, as most of your comments are along my own lines of thought. I'll just continue looking.

If the book isn't a 1st printing, no matter how immaculate it is, I would value it as <$9.

I assume that if they say "we're afraid to check," it means they DID check and it's a later print.

Anybody else think if they would quit sending out newsletters offering "a good customer's collection" for sale or putting same up on eBay, they might be able to publish paid for books in a more timely manner?

Or should we all just get CD to sell our stuff for us?

I haven't kept track of the Bachman paperbacks--but was there more than one printing of the book as a Bachman original? My impression was that most of these books died a fast death on the stands.

Well, they must be earning a commission, so any extra cash flow that helps keep 'em alive while they allegedly work on the books we've paid for should be a good thing.

I've seen paperback second printings of Roadwork and The Running Man, I think. I'm pretty sure they were Bachman stories and not billed with King's name at all. It's been about twelve years ago, and I didn't buy them since I already had the stories in a reading volume.

My first printing of The Long Walk has a cover price of $2.25. The one pictured above has $2.50. Therefore, not a first printing.
