I have to agree... I don't trust it, either. And I see this exact "type" fairly frequently. I suspect there's one guy (probably working from his basement) who's almost mastered the sig and slowly leaks them out onto the market. I'll see if I can locate others over time.
Mr Rabbit Trick... Thoughts?
I agree it's probably a forgery. This looks like an "End of Watch" type signature. Not sure how it ended up in Just After Sunset?
Wanted: Human skin edition of The Book of the Dead. Will accept PC copy.
This is where as a buyer, things are tough. It could be a value, but if you have even the slightest of worries, it will not be worth the savings. I just looked at a signed JAS that I have. I'm certain mine is a bonafide signature. Mine looks near identical to the signature pictured in the auction.
I rendered my opinion, and I will stand by it (money back guarantee for the cost of my opinion). That being said, since I have a copy that I know is legit, I don't plan on bidding.
I think you are right when you say that the same person is doing these forgeries. They have perfected the copying with an Autopen and can put it on anything. They just have to keep the same sizing (which is easy), but they can change the type and color of the pen okay. The actual signature will always be the same. The seller has a bad record for forgeries, so they do not have any problems with ripping us off.
It is not a good omen for the future as technology is favouring the forger. The older signatures are just as easy to copy with the Autopen method, so we need to be careful with "flatsigned" books.
It appears very odd when you look at his entire listing of Stephen King books.
Five books are flat signed and start at $24.95 opening bid, whereas the only inscribed and dated book, Nightmares and Dreamscapes, is priced at $365 "Buy it Now".
It is almost as though he is trying to tell us something himself!!!!
Here's a good one.

David is selling a Lettered and S/L Sleeping Beauties for a consignee (with CDs blessing). It'll be interesting to see if they go for the prices he is asking.
You are correct. I've updated my post.
Wow the consignee is looking for big profit before a book is even released!

At least the seller is smart enough to not put 'con' in his/her username. Oh wait...

Hi Folks,
I want to buy my first king signature. need some help regarding legitimate.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SIGNED-NEAR-...oAAOSw2xRYTiI0
is this king authenticated signature?
Thank in advance.
No, that is unfortunately a fake, but you've done the right thing (asked the question) and come to the right place (DT org). There is a thread on DT, "The EBay BS game", where we discuss questionable signatures, etc. But if you want a King signature at a good price, and to be 100% confident in its authenticity, I would recommend visiting Betts Books online. Also, often members here sell signed items on these forums which you can also have confidence in.
thanks for the prompt reply!
