    Default Knowing Darkness

The last sales for the signed version that I'm aware of are:

$750 - Betts sale, date unknown (according to Mr. Rabbit Trick)
$900 - what I paid for my copy in 2017
$1150 - what Mulleins sold his copy for (not sure of the date, 2017 I think)
$1180 - what this most recent copy went for in 2018

As the other bidder was willing to go up to $1150, I think this puts the market price of the S/L version around $1k.

As a side matter, the traycase alone just sold for $270.

For the non-signed version, here are the most recent auction results:

    Dec 2017: $320
    Jan 2018: $388
    Apr 2018: $389
    May 2018: $250
    May 2018: $350
    Jun 2018: $350
    Jun 2018: $400
    Jul 2018: $250

So somewhere in between $250-400 is the going rate, with 3 sales in the last 6 months hitting the $400 mark (or $389-$400 to be pedantic).

We had a similar conversation about this back in April (starting with this post: http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/...=1#post1099990).

In general I think that Knowing Darkness is undervalued on TDT because of the number of people who got their copies for less than list price from George Beahm over the course of the many years he was selling them (I also bought an unsigned copy from him in 2014 for $100). For a number of years, he was single-handedly driving the market and pushing down the price because he was the only seller and he had a bunch of copies. After his copies dried up, it took about a year for the market to tighten back up and now the unsigned version is going for almost what the signed version went for, and the signed version is hitting $1000+.

EDIT: From my post in the other thread -

On a side note, I have never seen one of the deluxe versions (of which I think there were ~25 and that retailed for ~$4-5k), and would love to see it if someone here has a copy!

Bill, you have the right idea.

I just had a good laugh.

I have a KNOWING DARKNESS which I never took out of the shrinkwrap. I have no idea what edition it is. Will sell as is for $1,000,000.

Bob Jackson (carlosdetweiller) has one of the deluxe copies but alas, he's no longer a member of the forum. I miss his contributions a lot...

I can't tell you how many times I would google something about Centipede Press and end up at a forum post of his. Without him I probably never would have found the site! He quit before I joined, which is sad, and what is even sadder is that he deleted all his collection pictures so now I can't even look up some of the books I want to just look at There are precious few pictures of the Centipede Press deluxe books out there...

I'm happy that Paul did that conversation with him! It was a nice peek into so much of the stuff that I missed.

I don't have a version of this but Amazon has some for sale. I don't know how accurate these prices are:
Used 9 of them going from $545.99-$3,214.59
New 2 of them. One is $3,943.01 and the other is $6061.27
Again, I don't know anything about this book then what I read on CP website but those prices seem to go to the extreme.

When I joined this site and first laid eyes on Bob's collection thread I was floored. I literally had no idea such collections existed (neither did I know anything about limited editions, 1st printings, you name it). I'm now used to seeing all these wonderful and extensive book collections (and there are many great ones) but Bob's will always be the benchmark for me.

The price has risen slowly since then. I haven't seen too many of them on the market. The deluxe was worth ~$600 two years ago.

$1181.43 is more than I expected one to go for. I was thinking it would go for around original asking price.

    I've seen the slipcased version go for ~$300. I haven't seen $400.

Adam, there were two bidders that went above £500.00 on the deluxe version.
I got the sliipcased version from Cemetery Dance back in 2011 using a 50% off coupon, paid $92.07

It was devastating. I wish I had taken the time to save all of his pictures because you just cannot find a lot of that stuff easily.

This Knowing Darkness debate is fascinating. I was interested to see what it would go for as I asked about its value awhile back. No one seemed to know really. I also got the signed edition from a member on here for a great price and thanks to the generosity of another member I now have one of the acrylic cases which snazzes it up even more! Markets change. Those two wanted one badly, who's to say the next one that could come up would go that high? This is what makes collecting so fascinating/frustrating!
Side note before we get to far off track: I'll be in the Southwest region come Sept and I really hope to fit in a trip to see Bob's collection. I don't know if time will permit but I'm going to try. I lived about 1.5 hours from him for 15 years and had no idea. Always late to the party. SMH.

Your interest was what started the previous conversation

Because it's fun to be right on the internet, my reply at that time was:

My knowledge of King overall pales in comparison to most members of this site, but I do know Centipede Press
