STEPHEN KING The Dark Tower The Gunslinger TRADE HARDCOVER 2nd Edition 1982 RARE

Christ, that shot up to over $700 in minutes.
Some dodgy looking bidding on that auction. There is one buyer that keeps pushing the price up. Looking at their last 30 day history they have 8% of bids with that seller and 6 retractions.
Smells like Shill bidding to me....
"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King
I bid, but bowed out at $100 when it shot up to $700.
It looks like bidder 9***n initially bid a max of $699. someone else (possibly you Kris) has tried to beat their bid (in increments) and pushed it to $700. 9***n has now bid higher and is currently winning with $710.
Shill bidding is where you bid on your own item (as another username) to either push the price up or ensure an artificial minimum price is reached. Usually if they get too greedy, and the auction is nearing the end, they are in danger of winning their own auction and suddenly the highest bid is magically retracted and the previous high bidder becomes the winner.
I cant be certain, but I'm always wary of bidders with lots of retractions and that bid on multiple auctions with the same seller.

This item is shipping from Shenyang, China. Might that call it's authenticity into question?

Simon,
Those appear to be automatic bids. Click on "Show automatic bids." 9***n put in a bid and b***l kept trying to outbid it. That is why there are so many 9***n bids up to $700.00 It appears that 9***n has now added to his/her maximum bid above $710.00.
I can't speak for any other auction because I didn't look for them. This may still be a shill but I've seen (and been part of) bidding that looks similar to this. I hope it's all legit but there ae crazy things going on in the world now.
Best,
John
Yeah, I agree they were automatic bids and it may well be someone who legitimately put a high bid on and then decided he wanted to go higher, it’s the number of retractions in the last 30 days that rings alarm bells for me.
As always with eBay, only bid as high as you are happy to pay, don’t get caught up in a bidding war

STEPHEN KING ES (IT) LEATHERBOUND IN SLIPCASE NUMBERED TRUE 1ED PHANTASIA
I saw a Facebook post that claimed eBay was requiring "make offer" options on some BIN items. Can anyone confirm?
