On the bright side, I can only lose two of my favourite 2000s flicks in this bracket. Up in the Air, Assassination of Jesse James, About Schmidt, and The Royal Tenenbaums are all top 50 films for me of the decade.

The Assassination of Jesse James has some of the most beautiful cinematography I've ever seen in a film.

I must be missing something with Remember the Titans, but I'm not a big fan of sports movies in general.

I'm surprised as well because I watched Remember the Titans but totally forgot it. I clearly ignored the order the title gave me.

Remember the Titans is good, but it's a sports movie. Even the good ones are just decent films with certain exceptions like Moneyball, Rudy, or, as I've heard, Hoosiers.

Hoop Dreams is good but it's a doc and Field of Dreams seems to be near and dear to several that don't even like sports films. Friday Night Lights was OK too. And going back to the 40s, I did like The Pride of the Yankees.

But boxing flicks seem to have a monopoly on great sports films. Raging Bull, Rocky, Warrior, Million Dollar Baby, The Fighter, Cinderella Man, The Champ etc. I don't really like watching boxing as a sport but I love boxer movies. It's weird.

Remember the Titans is also alot about racism and inequality so it is a little more than just a sports film.

Sports films usually are. I actually really liked Miracle (2004), and thought of nominating it.

It's also based on a true story. Although from what I read, they took A LOT of liberties with the Hollywood version.
Hearts are tough, she said, most times hearts don't break, and I'm sure that's right . . . but what about then? What about who we were then? What about hearts in Atlantis?

Was about to point out the same thing! In my mind it is really a movie about racial integration.

This is a reason, I generally don't bother to watch most biographical movies. You never know whats fact, whats embellishment and whats filler/fiction.

I'm fine with movies/shows that are promoted as "inspired" by an event or person but not promoted as biographical or historical.

I know Wes Anderson can be a bit divisive, but Royal Tenenbaums is one of my favorites of his. Also on the sports movie subject I've never really liked sports movies much either, but Remember the Titans is one of a few exceptions, and I can't really say I know why. Remember The Titans, Money Ball, Major League, Happy Gilmore, Caddyshack, and A League of Their Own are all ones that stand out in my memory as ones I do like. Though now that I look at that list half of them are really just comedies disguised as sports movies.

This is the weirdest tournament we've ever had. Remember the Titans? Really? It's one of the more forgettable sports films of the decade. I think people are just voting for famous actors they like or something.

I think it is more about what movies it is facing. This group is so bad I didn't bother voting for any but Titans would be the only I would consider. (I haven't seen most of The Assassination... so it may be good but I can't vote for something I haven't seen.)

Goodbye Royal Tenenbaums and About Schmidt. I've watched both of you at least ten times. The two weakest films are well in front. These tournaments only seem to serve to depress me.
