Oh my, so many good ones. I would say Amélie for sure. It's not just one of the best of the decade, but probably of all time. I would also single out: The Family Man, The Prestige, In the Mood for Love, Punch-Drunk Love, Before Sunset, The Secret of Kells...

I know, I spent a lot of the 00s watching horror/weird flicks and skipped over some major works I see now. Unfortunately I had the Prestige spoiled for me cause I overheard a conversation but I still need to see it.

I'll also note that Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut) is amazing and a must-see and it's up on HBO Go: https://play.hbogo.com/extra/urn:hbo...4HeIBThwEAAAEK

Indeed. The directors cut is such a great movie.

Good stuff ya'll. I will work as hard as I can to play catch up and good to hear from you, divemaster. When I nominated A Tale of Two Sisters, I thought of you cause I remembered how much you love it. Did you ever happen to see the American remake? I forget what's it called but of course it's not as good....

I PVRed Infernal Affairs because I've always wanted to see it. I'll try to watch some movies...I kind of wish we nominated and then waited a few weeks after nominations end until the tournament starts. More often than not, the films we haven't seen, I think, are more liable to be eliminated in the first round or two, meaning there is less reason to watch it to participate. This isn't as much a problem with the 90s/2000s, but once we get into the 40s/50s/60s, there's going to be a lot of films I haven't seen, and I'd definitely appreciate some time to watch whatever I can. A week doesn't given much time, especially in my case where I was off on holiday and dealing with family stuff during most of this in-between period.

With the older decades we will most likely have less titles too so adding a couple of weeks before voting is something I do want to do.

Keep also in mind that once the polls start going up, they'll be up for a week each so that gives everyone an additional seven days per poll.

I just finished the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven. Fantastic! I wanted to see it in the theaters but couldn't get anyone to take me at the time (I can't drive). But now I can't imagine a shortened version of it. Ridley Scott must be the king of director's cuts by now.

Great example of a theatrical release being a total mess and directors cut being amazing. What a great and criminally under-rated movie! Ten times better than Scott's The Gladiator too.

Have you ever seen It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World? Rat Race is essentially a remake of that film. It's a classic.

Also, I'm still working on the actor breakdown. It's been slow going.

I personally love it. I don't think it's quite at the level of Nightmare Before Christmas, but it's really good. I'd definitely put it in the upper tier of Burton films.

I'm really glad to hear that Tommy! It's such an under-rated film. And I'm not even sure why, I hope it can go far in the tournament.

If you watched it using my HBO Go link, if you want, they also have Amelie, which is another must-see.

It's not really boring, it's just a process. I actually find it really interesting to look up a film that I saw years ago and learn that some young up-and-coming and now big time actor had a small role in it.

I can tell you one thing so far, Christian Bale put in some major work in that decade. After not having one film in our 90s tournament, he has about half a dozen in so far and I'm only about halfway done.

Hey! I actually did watch The Uninvited. I Netflixed it about 3 years ago. I watched it all the way through and realized toward the end that I had seen it before. I checked my Netflix history and, yep, I had watched it some number of years prior. Obviously didn't make much of an impression on me if I didn't pick up on that until the end of the movie second time through! But all in all, it wasn't terrible, and there was enough stuff changed so that I wasn't bored to tears, but I'll always go back to the original.

It's funny but I have a slightly similar story. I had watched A Tale of Two Sisters with my movie buddy at the time and we both loved it, obviously. Some years later, he had seen The Uninvited and told me we had to watch it. So we get about halfway through and I'm like, this is very familiar and before the end I informed him it was a remake of AToTS and he was like Oh my god, you're right! So weird.
Anyway, hope you'll be participating in the tournament!
