Seven Pounds - this was a heavy movie, with great performances; I couldn't have been the only one affected by this.

I remember watching this one time. My wife didn't like it but I didn't think it was that bad. Reminds me a lot of Collateral Beauty which is another Will Smith movie that my wife didn't like.

Well, let's see...

I pretty much detest Ki-duk Kim; however, I did enjoy Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring. I'm not sure I would have seconded it, but at least if a Ki-duk Kim film was nominated it was this one and not, say, Bad Guy or The Isle.

I just watched Love Exposure a month or so ago. Really liked it a lot; all 4 hours of it! Def. would have seconded this one. Although Strange Circus would have been even better. Such a whacked-out film and a twist that I did NOT see coming at all.

National Treasure was fun. I figure if I bought the DVD it's a movie worth seconding. Surprised it didn't make the cut.

Secret Sunshine: Oh god, yes, A thousand times yes. Starring the best actress of the past 20 years. Not the best "Korean actress" but just damn the best in the world. No one else even comes close. One of the best-acted scenes I've ever watched in a movie is in this film--a scene where she doesn't even say anything. She conveys everything via an expression. Who else can convey how her world is changing in real time just via a reaction shot?

The Skeleton Key: Pretty good horror. So much Hollywood horror is crap; nice to see "better than average" at least get a mention.

Paprika: I didn't care for this much at all (not a fan of most anime). But I loved the soundtrack and bought the CD.

Red Cliff: Absolutely a great film. But you have to see it fully (Part 1 and Part 2) not the condensed and edited mash-up that was shown in U.S. theaters due to run-time.

Thus endeth my random comments on the "nominated but not seconded" list of films.

Problem is that we have members from outside the US, so a timeframe restriction wouldn't make sense... The only thing I'm thinking is to increase the waiting period for nominations from three to five, and for seconding from one to two? This should work well for the next tournament of the 2010s movies, since everyone will be very familiar with movies that came out during the last ten years. Once we go back in time to the 1980s and earlier decades, we'll probbaly need to switch back to the original limits, or even drop them to two or even one for the nominations for the very old decades of the 1940s and 1930s. It's always a process with these things...

Perhaps you could just put a daily limit per person. Maybe 3 noms per day. In fact if you did this maybe you could remove the waiting restriction. Maybe as it getss close to the end, say only 40 spots left, you could go back to normal rules.

Just reviewed the list and the breakdown is as follows:

35 movies in my collection (most but not all seen in the theater)
12 movies seen in the theater, but not in my collection
34 movies seen on cable,rental,VOD
4 movies think I have seen but not sure

So only 81-85 seen.

Of the remaining, only interested in seeing around 6 or 7.

That seems oddly low, but that's just me. I think the vast majority of our 256 nominees are pretty much must-see or should-see. So it's a good list.

I'm not going to bother looking at films that I didn't get a chance to nominate or weren't nominated by others that were worthy, but I'll break down the films I've seen versus haven't. I wish I had of nominated other David Gordon Green films, like George Washington or All The Real Girls...I was going to nominate the later, also The Squid and The Whale, but I couldn't participate in the final 50 or so films. There are a few films on here I've needed to watch for awhile, like There Will Be Blood and Brokeback Mountain.

I didn't notice it or I'd have seconded it. Most of the seconds are films I haven't seen, haven't heard of, or ones I didn't think deserved to be nominated. I kind of stopped looking at it and tried to second as films were nominated. There was a lot of activity during the day before I would get on so I no doubt missed a fair bit that someone else seconded. There is a handful of films I liked, but didn't want to second to take up a spot I thought other films were more deserving of, like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Man on Fire, and Irreversible.

The films from this decade just brought back so many good memories and I actually felt excited in a good way for the first time in a long time. I have much fewer from the 2010s since my viewership went way down for many reasons but I watched a LOT of films in the 00s.
