    If Pulp Fiction was up against any other film in this tournament I would have chosen it...


    Alas, it's going against Terminator 2 which I consider to be just about a perfect film.

    I really think T2 is a great and fun movie, but Pulp Fiction is the better film. Sorry!

    Idk man. Pulp Fiction is a benchmark of the 90's. Every single time it's on TV and have to sit down I watch it even though I own the physical media of it in every possible platform. It just exudes confidence.

    Having said that though, T2 is - for me - a perfect film. Thematically, in pacing, execution, design, innovation, acting, everything. I could go on and on about the greatness of that film honestly.

    Sure, there's no denying the effects were groundbreaking, though I'd actually point to Cameron's Abyss three years earlier for the real foundation of CGI use in movies. But I mean cultural impact as in what's known as memes today. Pulp Fiction was all over the place in mid to late '90s. T2? Not so much.

    I think The Abyss was the beginning of the liquid effects, But I think you can divide action movies into two parts. Pre T2 and after T2. Sure films like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon and even starting with Mad Max, had the action that really was not done before. T2 was a game changer. I saw it 3 times in the theater when it came out. There was just nothing like it when it came out. It was a great story with action that was almost unheard of before it came out. I mean who can deny that the truck/motorcycle scene was one of the best chases up to that point. The effects just were astounding. And the use of CGI mixed with real effects was genius. Flash forward to a more recent movie and one of the only chase scenes that can compare is the one in The Matrix Reloaded. T2 set the stranded for big action movies that followed. Plus, having the directors cut made the film even better IMHO.

    The Abyss directors cut is one of my all time favorite movies. I really am hoping that this gets released in 4k at sometime. It was astounding in the theater but the directors cut helps make the movie flow better.

    The Abyss is my #1 film of 1989 and at the very top for the '80s as a whole. And I love T2, I really do. But I feel like personally I find Speed is a better action movie.
