Farson sitting in the stone "throne", it is amazing as his second picture, where he first used in a sentence exclamation point! :-D Great episode.

I just read this today. Not bad at all. I find the narrators 'opinionating'* a bit irritating in places though.
    Spoiler:
Mainly that judgement on Randolph. It's up to us to decide... I found his actions rather understandable considering. He never struck me as a particularly bad man.

    Spoiler:
That little trick Walter pulled was really weird wasn't it? Heh. I was a bit confused with that earlier picture, i.e. whether or not Walter was actually turning Randolph into his likeness using the crow... but it became freakily clearer later.

I'm glad he went to the camp in that guise as it's mentioned in the books, (appearing in the form of a penitent I mean, not details of the actual incident) but I think they should have done so much more with it.. like maybe have him fool them for a while. No doubt that's due to the limited space, but they had a couple of two page spreads which weren't really needed, great though they were. And I don't think Roland should have made the connection between Marten and Walter this early.

And that last line was incredibly clunky:
    Spoiler:
"The encampment here at Jericho Hill is under attack!"

I understand that it's meant to be a bit of a revelation... but it's not how people talk its it? "We are under attack!" It's like they wanted to sacrifice realism for revelation.

*Not a proper word, but I'm sure you know what I mean.

Default The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger #2 (spoilers for Jericho Hill)

‘less he wants her soul to climb out of the pits of Na’ar and haunt him for all eternity, Roland must make good Aileen’s dying wish. And so the gunslinger has promised the last of his tet any desire…but is he prepared to travel to the one place on Mid-World he swore never to return to? Roland Deschain is going home to the ruins of Gilead—and just wait until he meets the new tenants...

    ---

I figured that Aileen dying would be a given, but just to be safe.

And I knew Furth would find some way to keep her Mary Sue around even after she died.

This pretty much confirms this is set before the novel then! (Forgive me if this is common knowledge!)

They probably should have called it something else to save confusion, but it looks like I might be buying this series after all.

And yes, an interesting cover. I take it the skeleton represents Walter.

I just took it as a representation of death. (And Walter has better taste in women, to boot )

Just my two cents, but perhaps the Horn of Eld is something special entirely, and its sound will carry through all the obstacles so those who need to hear it will hear it for sure?

Default Will you read The Gunslinger and subsequent issues?

So, will you read the next 30 issues, drop it after Jericho Hill ends or did you drop it earlier?

Me, I stopped reading the comics after Furth defecated on poor Walter with her Sorcerer one-shot.

I am genuinely curious how the series will do in terms of sales, given how low it's gotten at the moment.

Hey CGF - Good idea for a poll, since it's documented that sales have dropped off.

Of course, I will be buying, reading and collecting all the upcoming arcs. I like what has already been done, and I'm looking forward to the new titles.

I think a good idea for a new series would have been "Dark Tower Tales", something like "Star Wars Tales" with different writers and artists doing stand-alone stories that flesh out different aspects of the novels. One writer could do a story about Roland and Susan, another one could do something about Flagg's childhood and so forth. It wouldn't have to be restricted to one creative team and one storyline (young Roland) and maybe King himself could drop by to do the occasional story.

I'm just not sure. I've been VERY disappointed in the graphic novels that re-tell stories that King's already written (The Stand and Talisman) so, if they have nothing new to offer, I'll probably skip them.

I voted 'yes' as from the synopses I've read it seems to be new material. At least I'll probably buy the first issue and see how it goes.

I might wait for other people's reviews first though. If there is no extra back story stuff I might wait for the collection. Save a bit of dosh.

Despite the title, it appears to be less of an adaptation of the book of the same name and more of the adventures of young Roland as told by Robin Furth (yay).

I read the first 2 arcs and stopped right there.
I don't intend bothering with any more of it.

I just got the word from a second comics shop that the 1:75 sketch version of American Nightmares #5 was canceled by Marvel. That explains why I've never seen it.
