Surprisingly I don't think there's been a scene from Citizen Kane nominated yet?

    Nomination 7
    Kane's Boyhood - Citizen Kane

    Dir. Orson Welles 1941

I chose this scene for several reasons. It is arguably the most important scene of the film. It sets up Kane's entire future. The film comes full circle right back to this very important scene. The use of filming techniques is also top notch. Orson Welles was an amazing director, and brought so much to film. He definitely liked to play and experiment with different types of camera work, which can be seen here.

    Spoiler:
Only the gentle are ever really strong.

Okay, obviously I am missing or forgetting something, When did the German's ever bomb Pearl Harbor and specifically when in Animal House?
Oh, boy. Just watch the scene and all will be explained.

Also, guys, I love many of the scenes people have been nominating, but the Russian Roulette scene from The Deer Hunter needs to be in this tournament. It's not a tournament about great movie scenes without it. Any list compiling great movie scenes always includes the Russian Roulette scene towards the top half.

I kinda figured that was it, but it seemed somewhat lame for an explanation/title. Yet, it is a great scene so I guess I'll third it.

That was exactly the reason I didn't nominate this scene. I wanted to, but I definitely wanted the amazing shot of the mothership coming into view behind Devil's Tower, slowly rising, and then turning around.
    That shot is absolutely fantastic.

But now that you nominated it, I'll second it the moment I may!

    sk
Yeah, I agree, that's the shot I really wanted.
This is funny, at work, I can't see some of the photo's people post if its on certain web hosts. (I never see any of Bruce's pictures). They are blocked in such a way I don't even know they are blocked, because I can't tell there is supposed to be a picture (except by context). So I had no idea you included a picture in your post, or that it was included in my reply. LOL. So, I was agreeing with your statement, but I agree with your picture too!

    Second: Shootout scene - Unforgiven

    Nomination #15?

Was strugeling to think of another scene, then a couple came to me, and I thought WTF, why haven't these already been nominated. Here's the first:

    Scene: Do you feel Lucky?
    Movie: Dirty Harry
    year: 1971
    Director: Don Siegal
    Spoilers: no

    Spoiler:

Obviously there's another iconic Dirty Harry (the character, not the movie) scene that I will nominate if no one else does. (Maybe two more, but a man's got to know his limitations).

Skinny Dubois: "Uh, I... I own this establishment. I bought the place from Greeley for a thousand dollars."

Nomination #19: The death scene from Grave of the Fireflies (1988), directed by Isao Takahata:

Another animated nomination, and it's one of my all-time favorite films. It's one of those I rarely watch because it's so emotionally draining. And this scene in particular (I couldn't find the original Japanese version with subtitles, so the dub will have to do - it's not bad). This is one of very few movies that made me cry when I first saw it and even now watching the clip it gets me emotional. The animation is perfect and the (original) voice acting is so heartbreaking. One of the saddest moments in cinema history. The whole thing is a big SPOILER, obviously, but this is a nearly 40 year old film, come on, and I think the premise is well known. If you have not seen it, the scene perhaps doesn't really work or have impact without context, so I would definitely implore anyone who's yet to see this to watch it if you can. In my view, it's the best animated film of all time, and just plain one of the best films of all time.

In regards to sheet #2 on the flow chart, are we not worrying about that anymore? I've noticed the main sheet, which is more important, is being kept up with, but the sheet with the list of what people have nominated/seconded hasn't been.

If we aren't going to worry about it anymore then let me know and I will stop updating it. Thanks.

And are we keeping track of movie/franchise totals? I'm thinking of another Star Wars and another Batman scene, but I'm not sure how much has gotten in yet exactly.
