Terry O’Quinn has to go back… to working with J.J. Abrams.

The Lost alum is reuniting with the storied ABC drama’s co-creator via a starring role in Hulu’s upcoming psychological-horror drama series Castle Rock, which counts Abrams and Stephen King as EPs.

Castle Rock (named after the fictional town in King’s native Maine that is featured prominently in a number of his works) blends “the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved stories, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland,” per producers.

O’Quinn, whose recent TV gigs include stints on now-axed dramas The Blacklist: Redemption and Secrets and Lies, will play Dale Lacy, a pillar of the Castle Rock community. The cast also includes André Holland, Scott Glenn, Sissy Spacek, Melanie Lynskey, Jane Levy and Bill Skarsgard.

The news was first reported by our sister site Deadline.
O'Quinn was also casted in Silver Bullet. Looks like a great lineup of actors so far!

If you’ve ever wanted to be in a spooky television series, now’s your chance.

Nancy Mosser Casting is looking for background actors and actresses for “Castle Rock,” a Hulu-exclusive series based on a fictional town created by the master of horror Stephen King. Filming will take place in Moundsville, West Virginia from Sept. 24 through Sept. 28.

According to the casting call, the show can be described as “a psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse” and combines “the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland.”

The casting agency is looking for men and women to play prisoners, prison guards, prison staff, visiting family members and pedestrians. All talent must be at least 18 years old.

Fans of Stephen King are likely already aware that the series “Castle Rock,” based on the fictional area in Maine that is the setting for many of his stories, is being filmed in Massachusetts. The Hulu-produced series will be a psychological thriller containing characters and plot lines from several of King’s works.

According to a variety of news accounts, locations around the Commonwealth where “action” is occurring include Orange, Lancaster and the New England Studios at Devens. However, additional footage is being shot right here in Tewksbury.

The Public Health Museum in Tewksbury on the campus of the Tewksbury State Hospital on East Street will be a backdrop for several scenes in the show. A representative of the museum stated that information about the production schedule was not available, but the museum website states that the building closed on Sept. 7th and won’t reopen until Sept. 20.

The museum is the old Administration Building on the campus and houses an impressive collection of public health displays and highlights the role Massachusetts played in developing cures for several illnesses early last century including polio and smallpox. The building enjoys a reputation as a “creepy” place, though its architecture is by the renowned Richard Morris and dates to 1894.

The building has spectacular woodwork and precious Works Project Administration murals by Maurice Compris, Samuel F. Hershey, and W. Lester Stevens. Other parts of the state hospital and grounds are purported to be “haunted” and perhaps suitable for King’s thriller series.

The State Hospital has been in operation in Tewksbury since 1852, evolving from an almshouse and infirmary, to its current mission providing mental health and critical care support for adults in the Commonwealth as well as outpatient support for numerous state agencies.

According to the Massachusetts Film Office, Tewksbury has been the location for a host of film and television productions, including the series Katie Fforde and Jim Wahlberg’s short film “If Only,” along with the recent “Manchester by the Sea.”

Communication from Perry Seaman, Public Relations for Hulu, stated that interviews about the show are not being granted at this time, but a teaser trailer is up on YouTube by Bad Robot productions. So far, actors cast for the show include Bill Skarsgård, Sissy Spacek, André Holland, Jane Levy and Melanie Lynskey.

Each episode will feature a different story so keep your eyes open in town for some noted notables wandering around. The series is set to air in 2018 on Hulu.

It may have been inevitable that the production crew shooting a Stephen King-inspired online series would want to film in a cemetery.

And that’s exactly what will happen one day next week, when those involved in “Castle Rock” set up shop in Central Cemetery to shoot a funeral scene. The Orange Cemetery Commission met with “Castle Rock” assistant location manager Peter Gonzalez near the cemetery’s Civil War monument on Thursday and voted unanimously to grant permission.

Hulu, a subscription video-on-demand service, has ordered 10 episodes of “Castle Rock,” an original suspense/thriller. Castle Rock is a fictional town in Maine, King’s home state, that the writer has used in much of his work. According to Hulu, the town has been featured in “Cujo,” “The Dark Half,” and “Needful Things,” as well as the novella “The Body” and other short stories. Some filming takes place in Orange and the rest is done at New England Studios in Devens. A teaser for the series can be viewed online at: hulu.tv/2rBi7hF.

“Castle Rock” crews started working in town around the beginning of August and are expected to visit periodically until January 2018. Some filming was conducted near the downtown intersection on Thursday.

The production company will pay for a town employee familiar with cemetery maintenance and terrain to be present for the filming. Gonzalez said loss-of-production compensation can probably be arranged. He said a $1,000 filming fee will also be paid. Interim Public Works Superintendent Joshua Knechtel said there are no funerals planned for Central Cemetery in the near future.

Gonzalez also said the names of tombstones will not be seen by the series’ viewers.

“We’re going to respect everybody’s privacy,” he said. “We’re going to be respectful as possible. This is a cemetery and we don’t plan to do anything that’s going to dishonor anybody in any way, shape or form.”

Cemetery Commissioner James Cornwell said he also belongs to the Trustees of Soldiers Memorial, which got a grant to repair the Civil War monument, and requested the production company make a donation if the monument is used in the filming. Gonzalez said he can probably make that happen.

The TV show life cycle of Hulu’s Castle Rock is moving at an alarmingly accelerated pace. The show’s first season hasn’t even aired yet, and it’s already getting a reboot for Season 2.

At the New York Comic Con pre-panel press Q&A for the psychological thriller, drawing characters and themes from many classic works of Stephen King, producers Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason revealed that Castle Rock Season 2 will have a new storyline and a new lead cast.

It seems like the show might be heading toward an anthology format, and the wording seems to imply that some regulars might stick around on the cast — probably the ones who get paid the least. The first season is expected to start streaming on Hulu in 2018.

Ana Lily Amirpour is one of the most fascinating new directors working today. Her feature film debut A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night was tagged as “The first Iranian vampire Western” and received universal acclaim in 2014. Just two years later she followed that up with The Bad Batch, a cannibal Western featuring Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey and Jason Momoa. She recently finished shooting an upcoming episode of Legion.

Flickering Myth spoke to Amirpour at the Sitges Film Festival and asked her what it was like working on Legion and if she would do another TV show, to which she replied, “I am directing an episode of Castle Rock, and that’s because I’m a huge Stephen King fan and J.J. Abrams is producing it, and André Holland is the lead and it’s an awesome group of people, so I’m opened to do things like that.”

Amirpour was tight-lipped about giving details of the show. The full interview will be up shortly, but in the meantime, check out the NYCC trailer for the 2018 show right here.

Castle Rock is set in King’s fictional town, and is described as a psychological horror series which ““combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland.” It is slated to premiere in 2018.

On Tuesday, Pennywise the Dancing Clown made his way to Downtown Worcester when the Heart of the Commonwealth was momentarily transformed into Stephen King’s fictitious and creepy town of “Castle Rock.”

Bill Skarsgård, best known as the evil, sewer-dwelling child predator in the Hollywood blockbuster “It,” addressed four corporate suits around a boardroom table set up in the lobby of the Mercantile Building, 100 Front St., for a scene being filmed for the original Hulu series “Castle Rock,” due out next year.

Minus the white greasepaint and menacing sharp teeth, the tall and lanky Swedish actor let the cat out of the bag, so to speak, when he removed a feline from his leather tote, and the tabby, enticed by a laser pointer, proceeded to walk across the table.

And that appeared to be the only major scene filmed inside the downtown office tower.

For filming, crews arrived at 7 a.m. and left by 11:15 p.m. The main lobby was closed and the use of the first-floor elevators shut down for 16 hours.

Skarsgård, who is on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) as playing a “Shawshank Prisoner” in the streaming series, arrived around 5 p.m.

Set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock, from Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television, is named after the fictional town in King’s native Maine that first appeared in King’s 1979 novel “The Dead Zone” and is referenced in “Cujo,” “The Stand,” “It,” “Creepshow,” and “The Shawshank Redemption.” The town reappeared in his 2013 novel “Doctor Sleep” and 2014′s “Revival.”

This is not the first time “Castle Rock” has filmed in the area. In August, crews shot scenes at Vernon Hill School on Providence Street and at an old Victorian house in Lancaster. In addition, a heavy amount of filming has been reportedly done in Orange, which appears to be doubling for downtown Castle Rock.

Early reports had Terry O’Quinn (John Locke from “Lost”) being a part of the filming at the Mercantile Center, but he didn’t appear in the boardroom scene nor was he spotted on the premises.

Also in the cast is Sissy Spacek, whose major breakthrough came in Brian De Palma’s 1976 horror film “Carrie,” based on King’s first novel, for which she earned her first of six Oscar nominations.

Specek won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1980′s “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”

The setting of an upcoming online series partially filmed in Orange has taken a modern twist, as previous vintage-looking signs adorning local “businesses” featured on the show have been replaced by more contemporary ones.

Facades that were once made to look old-fashioned for “Castle Rock,” a series inspired by the works of horror writer Stephen King, were jazzed up with vibrant colors on Tuesday and the fake storefronts depicted businesses specializing in sushi, yoga and other commodities that might appeal to consumers in the 21st century.

A portion of South Main Street was cordoned off by Orange Police, though wooden barricades with “CASTLE ROCK POLICE” written on them were used to block the roadway.

A storefront that once had a sign for a fake video store sported one for “Castle Cuppa,” a fictional tea and coffee shop. Another fake sign, used in previous filming advertising a hair salon or barber shop, was still hanging and reads “A Thousand Cuts.” This appears to be a reference to an old method of torture and execution, and serves as a subtle nod to the sadistic and eerie themes of King’s work.

Castle Rock is a fictional town in Maine (King’s home state) that the author has used in much of his work. Hulu, a subscription video-on-demand service, ordered 10 episodes of the original suspense/thriller series. It is being produced by Warner Bros. Television and Bad Robot, the production company of J.J. Abrams, creator of “Lost” and “Felicity” and director of the films “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Mission: Impossible III.”

According to Hulu, the fictional town has been featured in “Cujo,” “The Dark Half,” and “Needful Things,” as well as the novella “The Body” and other short stories. Representatives from Hulu did not reply to emails requesting comment on Tuesday’s filming.

Orange landmarks, like the Quabbin Harvest food co-op at 12 North Main St., are visible in the trailer, which can be seen online at bit.ly/2y5Lptp.

The cast includes Melanie Lynskey, perhaps best known for playing Rose on the sitcom “Two and a Half Men,” André Holland, from the Academy Award-winning film “Moonlight,” Sissy Spacek, famous for her role as the title character in the 1976 film adaptation of Stephen King’s “Carrie,” and Jane Levy, who starred in the ABC comedy series “Suburgatory.” Bill Skarsgård, who portrays Pennywise the Dancing Clown in the 2017 film adaptation of “It,” based on King’s novel of the same name, has also signed on.

So I finally took a ride up to Orange a few weeks ago. There wasn't much going on, but the local little shop had a bunch of Castlerock gifts for sale. They had t-shirts, mugs, and coffee. And they made a fake sushi place just for the show.
