Maybe I am wrong (it happens a lot), but for some reason, I see Different Seasons as a Dragon Rebound book as opposed to a Suntup press book. Don't get me wrong, I think either one would be spectacular, just my personal feelings

I know, but that was an edition of one, right? Why not share the joy?
I would like to see the same treatment for Different Seasons: four individual slip cased books that would fit into a larger slip case box. Each individual slip case would have the corresponding "season" illustration from the original hard cover dust jacket. The box slip case would have all 4 seasons on each side and back.
The above is my January 25, 2009 post #15 from this thread: http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/...at-would-it-be.
Maybe someday...
Paul runs a business though guys. He cannot hold back his products so everyone can be in a position to purchase it. To be viable and lasting he needs to put out more than a couple a year. That revenue helps him secure more deals. And thus bigger books and bigger authors. He name and product get noticed more and more thus he becomes a house hold name to collectors. Like say... Subpress is CD. Imagine if we told them to stop making so many books so we could buy them all. Just a thought I’m sharing is all. I hope he does what he can to stay viable and visible in the book market!

You, but I am not going to get into it with you. There's no point. Let others figure it out on their own and make their own determinations. You do crack me up though. Thanks, I needed the laugh.
Glad you got one Bill. Perhaps is it because I’m a lifetime member? I borrowed that money (I’m Canadian member) and it was $40000 CAD. I’ll be paying that loan for years. MANY years. Because I can’t imagine what other reason you have for your silly comment . Even if I wasn’t I would have common sense on the issue. Which again.. You seem to be lacking here on the subject. Paul is my friend and I’ll support him. Unlike you and your words on his last release. Do you Remember? I have enough on my plate now (thanks for the kind words yesterday though as for some reason you enjoy saying something nice one day and than ignorant the next ) then to deal with you and your moods of Dr. Jekyll and Hyde. Have a wonderful evening Wild Bill.

Excellent post Kris.
I have one S\L book with the next two on the way. I understand both sides of this. Paul needs get his name out there but not everybody can keep up. I will say that what I don't like is the feeling of pressure of getting every book because if you don't, then you lose your number or letter. CD doesn't do that or CP either for the most part. That puts a lot of stress on people who may be able to a few books at a time but not one right after the other. I mean just think about it. People may have paid for two books that aren't even out yet and then are being asked to buy a third. But I am in now and will continue to be. But I understand. It's hard for people to pay out that much money. If they can't, they won't. But they will be out of the loop. If it were me, I might do something like this. Let's say I bought a book and my number was #93. So I then bought a second book so I got #93. But the third book was something that was too expensive or I just did not want. It would be nice if we could contact Paul and say "you know what Paul, book x doesn't interest me, you can sell it to someone else." But the original rights would stick with me. #93 would still be mine. If the next book was something I wanted and could afford I would buy it and keep my #93. That way, I still get my number but I would not feel obligated to get every book. Trust me, I consider Paul a good friend also and I don't think this message would upset him. My reasoning may be totally wrong and that's OK. It just how I feel. But I will continue to support Paul and get all the books I can. Like I said, I consider him a good friend also. So I am either completely right or totally wrong. I can live with either one and I hope this does not offend Paul.
That wouldn’t work, though. At least, it would be unfair to the guy who bought your “rejects.” If he is also interested in a certain book, all he can do is hope you decide to pass again - otherwise he’s SOL.
Do CD and CP allow you to retain rights to a number indefinitely, or did I misunderstand your post?

OK. Maybe I am wrong. I never bought a signed number book from CD or CP so I can't answer that. You can request a matching number from CD. Say, if had a numbered From a Buick 8, I could have requested to match my number if I bought IT. But if I wanted to just buy IT own it's own, I don't think I needed to have From a Buick 8 with a matching number. And hey, if someone does not want my "rejects" so be it. Maybe have a lottery then for the ones that did not sell. And no, he does not just have to hope that I pass. Paul already has an option after the preorders are done for people to jump in. I just don't like the idea of feeling that I have to buy every book even if I may not want it, in the chance that the next book is something that I do want. I just thought it was a good idea for someone trying to get in and at least get one book. And who is say that my reject is book that someone else really wanted. At least they would have one with the chances of getting others. But like I said, I understand if my logic makes no sense. I am not in Paul's buisness so if I misguided with my thoughts, so be it. It's OK. You can flame me, I have my fire suit on. Fire away. I am done for the night.
I understand Paul maximizing his revenue (I want him to).
And I simultaneously understand collectors wishing for favorable buying circumstances.

You guys amaze me. All I did was find humor in a post and express it. I didn't call anyone names or belittle, Kris I simply found his post humorous. He took umbrage with that and I left it for others to make their own conclusions. I thought this forum was here to provide a place for the free exchange of thoughts and ideas. Apparently, if your thoughts or ideas do not agree with that of the majority here its absolutely, okay to demean the member with impugnity. This is apparent in the fact that, Jerome decided to endorse the name calling in a separate post. Yeah, Kris I remember that I had the audacity to express my opinion with regard to, Jordan Peele signing a copy of "Rosemary's Baby" and selling it as a signed limited did not make sense to me. I still don't see the connection, but that is just my opinion. Others thought differently and sold out the edition. So, now that makes me a pariah? And the "things on your plate" didn't stop you from posting in several threads along with this one. I don't see what one thing has to do with the other. Yes, I passed on my sympathetic thoughts for your tragic situation. What you are having to endure sure sucks, but what has that got to do with you posting regarding your business acumen on behalf of, Paul? Also, the fact that I didn't agree with a choice, Paul made in an edition doesn't preclude me from supporting him in his endeavors. I wish him well and all the success he can get. It seems that according to you in order to support anyone you must agree with everything that person does 110%.
You sure got a lot out of a few laughing emoticons. You then proceeded to call me names and demean me in general and, Jerome you endorsed it all. I just don't know what to make of all of this. One thing is for sure, don't express an opinion here unless you're sure it will be liked and accepted by, Kris and/or Jerome that's for sure. True to form around here I'll most likely be banned or put on some sort of a "time out" for having the audacity to attempt to defend myself. It amazes me that I even have to defend myself for a few stupid emoticons and being called names I did not initiate. However, it seems to be the preferred course of action whenever I have an opinion that does not fall in line with, Jerome, Kris or the prevailing sentiment on the site.
Jesus Christ Bill. You are a drama llama. Kris made a cogent post about the fact that Paul needs to produce a fair amount of books to not only be at the leading edge of small press publishing, but also to literally earn an income. Of course since Kris is a lifetime subscriber, he benefits by Paul publishing more books, but Paul also benefits. To make a living in the publishing world, one needs to publish quite a few books.
Not being privy to Paul's (or Cemetery Dance's, or any other publishers numbers) finances, I'm certain that the profit margins are thin, and in order to make a middle class living, a small publisher has to sell over $200K gross in new books a year just to get by (or work another full time job).
You expressed your opinion (with several emojis-an easy way to say something, but simplistic at best). Kris disagreed with you in a reasonable response. Subsequently I agreed with Kris. No crimes were committed, no names were called (asshole, motherfucker etc. ) so just stop acting like you are a victim. People disagree. End of subject.
You've been one of Paul's biggest cheerleaders, Mike. No one can dispute that. With your count downs to release days/times and sellouts; you leave no doubts, my friend. However, I think it would be too hard for Paul to initiate the plan you suggest. I feel the best option if you don't want a particular book is to sell it once you take possession of it. You can list in the sell that no rights transfer and you're not out anything as far as keeping your number. It's just too big a risk personally to give up a Suntup number and future rights. You never know what Paul has cooked up for us next!
As far as the payment plan. That's the way I pay for my books and I'm very grateful that it's even an option. Otherwise, Joe Blow Purchaser, such as myself, would be SOL. I do hope selfishly that payment plans don't/wont overlap but, if it would come to that, I'd have a decision to make. Like what members have posted above; at the end of the day, Paul has a business to run and a living to make.
