It’s different. It’s one of the most gruesome, but finely written books I’ve ever read. The subject matter is the brutality against native Americans in the 1800s.
    Looking for:
    - Philtrum Press Eyes of the Dragon RED #165
    - Fine Viking Eyes of the Dragon proof

McCarthy has been quoted several times as refusing to sign THE ROAD, save for the X number of 1st ed trade HCs he signed and numbered for his (then ten-year-old) son to sell later in life. So if this edition of THE ROAD is signed, it won’t be by McCarthy. But BLOOD MERIDIAN on the other hand...
Did he ever give a reason why he would not sign that particular book?

I think a sort of retirement plan for his kid. But maybe he’d make an exception for a limited edition vs the first trade edition.

He wrote the book as a love letter to his young son, so for him it remains a private, intimate experience...it’s the only one of his books he refuses to sign for the public. From a Wall Street Journal interview:

    ——————-

WSJ: Why don't you sign copies of "The Road"

CM: There are signed copies of the book, but they all belong to my son John, so when he turns 18 he can sell them and go to Las Vegas or whatever. No, those are the only signed copies of the book.

WSJ: How many did you have?

CM: 250. So occasionally I get letters from book dealers or whoever that say, "I have a signed copy of the 'The Road,'" and I say, "No. You don't."

    —————

That said, there were a number of first edition UK hard covers that included a special publisher’s signed bookplate laid in, but that’s it. Again, though, not really signed, per se, as the book itself was not signed.

Of course, I can’t know for sure…maybe Paul got him to change his mind, but I strongly doubt it.

I doubt it will be signed by him. I have looked up prices on some books signed by him and they are in the thousands of dollar range. An inscribed Blood Merlin is listed at $30,000. But there is another one listed at $1,500. Another book called Suttree is going for $12,000. So I find it hard to believe that this would be signed by him. I am sure it will be signed by the artist and someone else.

Blood Meridian is one of my top 3 books of all time! I love it. I would kill for an S/L!! But all of Cormac McCarthy's works are top notch in my book, and a limited edition of The Road would be awesome

This may be mildly blasphemous on these boards, but he's my favorite author

Like others, I'm having a hard time thinking anything else but The Road based on the teaser...

EDIT: While I would love it to be signed by McCarthy, I'm actually more excited to see what Paul and his team come up with for the designs! I have a number of his first editions, though unfortunately none of the early titles and nothing signed, and if you asked me if I would rather have a signed trade book or an unsigned Suntup Editions book, I'd pick the unsigned Suntup every time . They're absolute works of art. However, I wouldn't put it past Paul to be able to get a sig, maybe if only for the lettered edition...

The teaser video that was just released pretty much clears up what the book will be.

I didn't know that there was speculation that this release might be CM's "The Road", I haven't been following this thread closely enough it seems - when I saw the teaser I got very excited at the thought that it could be The Long Walk.

I agree. I am sure the design will be great and was wondering the same thing. Maybe signed only for the lettered. Either way I am sure Paul and his team have some great ideas for this book.

I hope I'm right with the teaser artwork being that of Barry Moser.
    Very nice woodcut.

I’m wondering if this isn’t Pet Sematary due to the stony nature of the video. Unless that is significant in The Road.
