Yep, what Peter said. You can insure media up to $500 and save a ton on shipping cost. I did priority on my numbered sales and insured them for the sale price. International sales are more risky as you can only insure up to $200 via USPS. If you do use USPS for international, use their priority box. For years I used Media Mail for shipping books. Cheap books, or books worth up to ~$1k, unless the buyer wanted Priority Mail. Saved me hundreds, if not a thousand dollars over time. 99.9% of the books I shipped arrived undamaged. A few took odd trips and took more than the usual 5-10 business days to arrive, but overall MM worked very well.
Recently I mailed a book worth $750 via MM. I did not insure it, but the circumstances would have been the same. All the USPS shows it that I printed a label. There was no "intake scan". That was because I use software to buy postage and print shipping labels. This has saved me 100's of hours standing in line at the local Post Office.
I would just drop off my pre-labled packages in their bin.
Now, for anything worth more than ~$100, I have someone (my Mom, she likes to get out) stand in line to get each package scanned (Intake) and get a receipt. I try to ship Tuesday-Thursday as the lines are much shorter.
The USPS is intentionally re-prioritizing certain groups of mail. 1st class mail is being processed as normal (books are too heavy for 1st class). Overnight shipping is being processed promptly. Priority Mail is separated into two classes-USPS labeled with their own flat-rate boxes, and user boxed boxes. Both are subject to 3-5 business day delays, but USPS flat-rate boxes seem to not suffer significant delays.
Media Mail has become detritus. With little or no overtime allowed, Postal employees literally drop the box when the whistle sounds. Not kidding. The inside of a large Postal Distribution Facility is uglier than a hot dog factory.
Fahrenheit 451 was out for delivery today - but not on same route as my other mail...guess I will have to wait until tomorrow.

The biggest and most bad-ass prize i've ever won in my life would be , without any question, Suntup's recent release of Neuromancer.
