    Default Great Music - Playoffs Round 2: 1980-1984 (Bracket 2 of 8)

For this playoffs poll, please choose one track to move on to the Quarterfinals.

IMPORTANT! Please do not simply vote on name recognition (or lack thereof) alone. Please do listen to each nomination and then make your choice. Even if you think you know a track well, it's still worth giving it a listen for a refresher.

The poll will run for seven days. Discussion is greatly encouraged!

The nominees are (please let me know if any video doesn't play for you):

Soft Cell - Tainted Love (1981)

    Michael Jackson - Thriller (1982)

It is difficult for bears to Moonwalk. The hind claws just gouge the stage floor.

It probably won't influence you in liking the song any better but you definitely need to check out the full-length video of Thriller. It's like a little 15 minute horror movie by itself.

Hearts are tough, she said, most times hearts don't break, and I'm sure that's right . . . but what about then? What about who we were then? What about hearts in Atlantis?

I can remember being a kid, playing outside with my brother and sister, and my mom would come call for us because MTV was playing the Thriller music video. We'd drop what we were doing to run inside and watch the whole thing. It's still incredible to this day, I think.

The poll has closed. "Thriller" will face Joan Jett and the Blackhearts - I Love Rock 'n' Roll (1981) in the Quarterfinals.

Haha. Hey, mine was the generation that got to enjoy MTV in its prime. If that makes me old, I don't care.

I know the clip is kinda cheesy now but I always got excited when I saw that rocket launch from that unique perspective. It meant videos were coming. That clip has kind of a Pavlov's dog effect on me...and of course there was always Headbanger's Ball.

Yes! Saturday nights watching Headbanger's Ball were great. I think the one that stands out the most for me is the one where Alice in Chains went to the water park with Ricky Rachtman.
And Alternative Nation every weeknight is how I discovered so much music that I still love to this day.
