    Default Great Music - Round 2: 1980-1984 (Group 8 of 16)

During the second round of The Great Music Tournament, please vote for up to three tracks you would like to move onto the next round. The top three tracks will be moving on. Keep in mind that the percentage of the vote a given track receives will determine its standing going forward.

IMPORTANT! Please do not simply vote on name recognition (or lack thereof) alone. Please do listen to each nomination and then make your choice. Even if you think you know a track well, it's still worth giving it a listen for a refresher.

The poll will run for seven days. Discussion is greatly encouraged!

The nominees are (please let me know if any video doesn't play for you):

Queen - Another One Bites the Dust (1980)

Metallica - Fade to Black (1984)

Marvin Gaye - Sexual Healing (1982)

David Bowie - Modern Love (1983)

    Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah (1984)

Possibly Leonard Cohen's signature song. One of my most favorite artists of all time. Still going strong, too, with new stuff!

I'm going to look him up but I don't believe I had ever heard of him before.

EDIT: I just skipped through about ten of his songs on youtube and I can definitely say I am not familiar with his work.

I'm the same way. I knew the song "Everybody Knows" from the movie Pump Up the Volume but didn't know a thing about the artist other than his name.
Hearts are tough, she said, most times hearts don't break, and I'm sure that's right . . . but what about then? What about who we were then? What about hearts in Atlantis?

2 of Cohen's songs are on the Natural Born Killers Soundtrack as well. "Hallelujah" is probably my favorite song lyrically. I can't really pick a favorite version because there are so many and each one strikes different but elegant chords with me. I like Cohen's other stuff, sure. But he hit it out of the ballpark with that one.

I had never heard of Leonard Cohen before this contest. And looking at Pablo's list, I can honestly say I'm not familiar with any of those songs.

But once you listen to them, you'll surely become an instant fan. It would be impossible not to.

A few have complained here and there about Bowie getting left out of the advancement. Truth be told, Bowie is hit or miss with me and some of his songs in this overall contest fall into the "nice, but no great shakes" category for me.

However, for David Bowie - Modern Love (1983) to only get three votes is very surprising and disappointing. That's one I'd vote for all the way to the final 5 or whatever.

Quite a few of these contest results surprise me.

Yes...I care little for Bowie's work, but Modern Love is on my list...good point Dive.
