Thanks guys but the shipping cost is what is really killer getting them across the pond from what I saw on eBay. Probably will have to try my luck stateside first then cough up the dough for the one's I can't find here.

That's exactly what I'm doing with US firsts but in reverse. Postage is more than the book itself!

No doubt but at least you guys have given me a great benchmark to compare prices both here and in the U.K. so I can get the best bang for the buck or pound as it may be . I do appreciate that!

I too am on a first ed hunt after losing a truckload of books in a move last year. I've found UK postage to,be pretty good to Oz. The USA and Canada is heartbreaking. The exchange rate is a killer, but as stated above, the postage is sometimes twice the cost/value of the book. I'm trying to do 3-books at a time with each seller, combining post. Still expensive, but a more cost effective.

I've got most of the U.S 1st/1st except for some of the really high end ones. Found an eBayer here in the states and looks like his asking prices are about what I'd pay or less if I had to get 'em from the U.K. with the exchange rate, postage, and all. Love the U.K. cover art BTW. Most are way better than their U.S counterparts IMHO.

i tried to grab as much as possible on bigger sales with multiple items,
Shopping first each by each is no fun

This is true and how I acquired a lot of my U.S 1st/1st. I hit multiple auctions of folks selling lots and ended up with several duplicates but not bad when the average price paid was $3 to $4 per book and in surprisingly great shape. I'll definitely looking into it. Thanks!

If book is roughly Fine- and DJ Fine- I'd say $50-$55....nice copies of Talisman not too easy to find.

Thanks David. VJ Books is having a sale. Even with 40% off, they're still charging $75. Guess I'll be passing on it.

I thought about that one as well. It is in brand new condition by the description...of that is true than it's worth the extra bit of money IMO. I paid over and above for a mint condition of IT because they are so hard to find these days.

What shocks me about IT... is just what you said. They are HARD to find in perfect shape. I paid $50 for mine and thought it was a STEAL!!! I think that book in perfect shape should fetch over a $100 as there are so very few out there....

What tempts me about that copy of The Talisman is that I have a Straub signed copy of Black House as well. Not very fancy, but would still make a nice set.

I would get it. I've thought VJ Books was usually pretty reasonable, esp. with a discount coupon. If the book is as nice as described you would probably be very happy with it. And, who knows, maybe one day you can get King to sign it too.

Those are all very good points, so of course I had to place an order. Thanks Bob! I even added an older signed John Grisham book that I was missing.

Is The Talisman a first edition though? Why does VJ mention First Edition Thus in his listing.

    Just curious.
