I am curious as to how price clipping would affect first and second edition Gunslingers. I understand that clipping greatly affect the value of most books and many here would not even own one that was clipped however in the case of the Gunslinger where the edition is clearly marked and there were not multiple printings it seems very easy to identify what it is. Of course the clipping will still have an impact. I have a second edition Gunslinger that beyond the price clipping is in VG condition (both book and dust cover). The covers for the first and second edition were the same I believe.
1st Editions on the lefts 2nd Editions right.
Well that makes it even more clear that it's a true second edition. So how much do you feel a price clip would affect a second edition since there were no bce's and the price is not really needed for verification? Understanding it would obviously still affect it.
Price clipped second edition I would say <200.
I actually own the book currently. I got it for a good price so it didn't bother me too much but was curious as to how much it affected the value. I would love to get a non-clipped dust cover though. I am not sure if I can post in the wanted thread but will give it a shot. Thanks!
What would be a fair price for a unfolded as new 1st edition 2nd print Gunslinger dust jacket? I have a extra I would consider selling, I don't remember what I had paid for it, need to start writing a log for all purchases!!! Kevin
Interesting. I have seen a few really nice versions of this book sell for under $200 recently. Is the jacket really that much of the value? Would a copy without a cover sell for around $30?
I noticed that a price clipped second edition sold for $90 on ebay but the cover was in awful condition IMO. That would lead me to believe that a price clipped in good shape would be worth over $100 but under $150. Somewhere in that range.
I would prefer to get a good unclipped cover on it.
You asked the price of a new unfolded DJ. I stand by $175. If you can find new condition unfolded ones for less, please let me know as I'll buy them.
I didn't ask for the price of a new unfolded DJ....ke7285, did. I also wasn't questioning you so much as asking if that was really what they went for? I didn't realize that they were almost as much as a whole book although I guess being unfolded makes a difference? I want one for a book so I don't want to ruin an unfolded one of people collect things like that.
As far as there being no value I would see that with most books but was curious as to how it affected a book in which the price was in no way an indicator of edition such as this. I would say the less than $75 is off though as (like I said) one just sold on ebay that was price clipped and in bad shape for $90.
Thanks for your help! I apologize if it felt like I was critical of the price you quoted. I wasn't trying to be.
I disagree. There will be some value to a fine price clipped jacket. Yes, oxymoron as price clipped means it can't be fine I know, but you get my meaning. Someone who has a ratty jacket would pay something for a fine one sans price I believe.
I agree with you on that point. There is some value to a price clipped fine dust jacket. A book looks good on a shelve with one... and yeah.. I would have one. I would RATHER a non though as just about every other collector but they are not "worthless" by any means. I do agree with RF's pricing though.

I was really curious as to how they were viewed when talking about cooks that did not have a BCE. It seems like there would be less of an issue in that case. It seems that is not the case for collectors though. Good info to have and an interesting conversation!
Thank's for the advice, for that is what I have and wasn't really looking to sell but if Johnny Allen is interested pm me. Webstar1000 I was kinda surprised with what you got for a couple dust jacket I also have a 1st/1st gunslinger as new but not for sale. Any idea what a flatsigned 4th printing of the The Gunslinger (2003, Hardcover, Revised, Expanded version) hardcover would be worth?
