    Sounds like a fun event.

Sorry you didn't get any signed books directly, David, but if you've got 8 lined up already so early in the tour, that's a great start.

    Congrats, becca! Nice pics, too!

I was there in Pittsburgh. Fun night. Stories were mixed as Dave noted - some old, some new. He told alot of Pittsburgh stories, including from the making of Creepshow and tour for the Dead Zone and read a new story based on the Edward Hopper art - for the first time anywhere he said. It started on time - at 7 and finished around 8:15. King seemed to be having a lot of fun. Also a hilarious story, which I think is his closer, about changing a flat tire for $15 in Florida for someone who did not recognize him.

Security went up another notch - or maybe this was just for the event in the Burg? - but he entered/exited unseen from the event and they had police posted on each side of the stage.

Stll, a lot of fun forsure.

Yes, and it was fantastic. King was on stage for about 75 minutes. He started by talking at length about his love for Pittsburgh. He spent a few months in the city when Creepshow was being filmed. He also talked about his unfortunate bathroom experience in the city and the attendant who tried to get an autograph, a story I've heard before. Several more fun stories, including a few about IT, which was creeping out my friend, who is terrified by Pennywise!

The highlight was when he said he didn't want to read from EOW, and instead read for the first time his story that is going to appear in a Lawrence Block anthology in December. It was a story that was inspired by a painting by Edward Hopper. He then took questions from the audience for about 10 minutes.

On the way out, employees were handing out books. My friend and I both were successful in getting a signed copy! She stood in line for five hours to get us tickets, and she said it was worth it. It really was a fantastic time. So glad I made the trip!

The police presence was a little odd. It wasn't a rowdy crowd, by any means. Having security at both ends of the stage seemed unnecessary.

    Awesome on getting signed copies.

There have been lots of theories about books showing up on eBay and how "locals" tend to keep their books...If 2 nights is any indication (~800 books out there) the number having made it to eBay so far is pretty small! Several asking over $550-600 which I think is nutty. I've made lots of Best Offers and made several deals (at prices higher than I'd want) but I think I've scored 6 copies now....People on my wait list might find the price is higher than the $275, maybe $300 I imagined before the signings started....maybe we get there price wise...it may take time for extra copies to find their way to places like eBay, but after two events I'm a bit shocked at how few copies are out there for sale.

Becca was a good help for me when describing the flapped copies. As it turned out, I had no choice in the book that was just handed to me. But if you have a chance to pull a book from a stack, look for one with the flap tucked into the title page.

Walking out of the Sewickley event last night, I didn't notice anyone who was disappointed holding an unsigned copy. So here's my conspiracy theory...

There were pictures posted on Facebook of him signing books in the back of the auditorium. Wouldn't he have signed the books before the tour?? Since capacity was 660 and 400 books were signed, either the photo was staged, or he figured what's 260 more? He was also in a great mood throughout his time on stage and talked fondly of the city. So, maybe???

I doubt he signed before the tour. That's not the way it's normally done. Stores order the books and the author signs stock before the event.

As I understand it, the publisher sends the requisite number of books to each event (all unsigned). Shortly before the event (sometimes only a few hours) King signs the books needed for random distribution (for this tour it looks like ~400 per event). King can sign 400 books in less than 2 hours.
