Might as well start posting the leftovers, right?

    Here's a MEGA hit from 1980:

    Dolly Parton -- 9 to 5 (1980)

And as long as I'm on movies, how about:

    Irene Cara -- Fame (1980)

I have tons of leftovers too, but just wanted to lament that I'm shocked "Rock of Ages" and "Rock You Like a Hurricane" did not get seconded. Oh well! If we had the time, I'm sure we could come up with 112 nominations per year, not per five years, so lots and lots of great music had to be left behind. But we can still discuss these "leftovers", such as:

Tears for Fears - Shout (1984)

I like so much of Elton John's work (with the exception of one song that makes me want to stab out my eardrums with an icepick). Even the songs that make no lyrical sense are still captivating. Here's one that didn't make the list:

Elton John -- I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues (1984)

It seems the world forgot about Sheena Easton, who was quite popular back in the early '80s. I guess that could either be a good thing or a bad thing, based on your perspective. Anyway, here's three I had on my list:

    Sheena Easton -- 9 to 5 (Morning Train) (1980)

Sheena Easton -- For Your Eyes Only (1981)

Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton -- We've Got Tonight (1983)

In 1984...Metallica joined up with the Jews and read their bible for what is, IMHO the second metal anthem...second only to Rainbow's (Dio) "Man on the Silver Mountain" with Creeping Death!!

Great music, obviously. Vangelis is a genius.

Here's a track off his lesser known studio album I wanted to nominate but didn't get a chance to:

    Vangelis - Suffocation (1980)

Great, I enjoy doing them. I was surprised to see half of the nominations coming from just the last two-year period of the five.

Yeah, I was just looking through the list and thinking "I really don't care much about any of the songs on the list".
It's almost like all of the songs are just mediocre at best.

We had one Billy Idol song go through (White Wedding) and two more nominated but not seconded (Rebel Yell and Dancing with Myself).

I'd also like to mention his cover of Mony Mony. I love the original (and it was seconded in the appropriate thread), but here is a rare case where a cover of a loved classic does a fantastic job as well.

Billy Idol -- Mony Mony (1981)

And speaking of Billy, we neglected this popular song from another Billy--Billy Joel.
