Default In the Tall Grass on Netflix

    http://www.joblo.com/horror-movies/n...tall-grass-271

Vincenzo Natali, the brilliant director behind CUBE, SPLICE, and HAUNTER (not to mention episodes of NBC's "Hannibal" and Netflix's "Hemlock Grove) is set to bring us an adaptation of Stephen King and Joe Hill's novella IN THE TALL GRASS, which will be kicking off pre-sales in Cannes next week, according to Screen Daily.

Natali adapted the screenplay from the novella by Stephen King and Joe Hill, which first appeared as a story in Esquire. Paradigm represents US rights to the project.

Steve Hoban of Copperheart, which is producing in association with Mosaic Media, serves as producer and Gloria Fan is executive producer. Principal photography is scheduled for September in the Toronto area.
Cube is quite literally one of my favorite sci-fi movies ever (and Nothing was a minor masterpiece, too), so this is great news.

Yeah, Cube is a classic. Haunter was pretty cool as well. Then directing credits on Darknet, ABC's of Death, Hannibal, and The Returned, all of which I enjoy.

Cube/SK trivia, Nicole de Boer starred in Cube. She then played Sarah Bannerman in USA's The Dead Zone.

    I finished the film, yes.

I'm aware that the director has done messed up/bleak stuff (such as the ending to Splice) but
    Spoiler:
fetus eating is a whole other thing, something that I could never see happen in anything resembling a major film production in the United States.

Hypothetically if we're talking about a limited/VOD release then maybe that could change.

Cube was brilliant (and enjoyed the sequels as blood/guts/effects movies, but they never matched up to the brains/simplicity of that first one. A remake is ill-advised if they move away from the dystopian ending. In other words, they'll fuck it up. For sure.

    http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2018/05/...ed-for-netflix
All the way back in 2015, we reported the news that director Vincenzo Natali (Splice, Cube) had signed on to helm an adaptation of Stephen King and Joe Hill's remarkably disturbing novella, In The Tall Grass. At the time, the film was allegedly being prepped for pre-sale at that year's Cannes Film Festival.

This was an exciting development - King and Hill's brutal piece of short fiction, brought to life by a guy who definitely knows a thing or two about disturbing horror! We celebrated this news...and then promptly didn't hear anything else about it again until (checks watch) just now, which just so happens to be three years ago to the day since we first published that report.

Anyway, here's the news on In The Tall Grass, via Deadline:

"Despite its absence from the official film program here at the Cannes Film Festival, Netflix continues to move forward in its feature slate building. A deal has closed for In The Tall Grass, a novella written by Stephen King and his son and fellow bestselling horror author Joe Hill. Westworld‘s James Marsden is in negotiations to star, and Vincenzo Natali is adapting to direct."

For those of you who remain unfamiliar with this one, here's a logline:

"After hearing a young boy’s cry for help, a sister and brother venture into a vast field of grass in Kansas but soon discover that there may be no way out."

Not a word of that logline is inaccurate, but hoo boy, are they leaving a lot out; In The Tall Grass takes some wild twists and turns on its way to an absolutely shattering, pitch-black conclusion. It's very exciting to know that Natali is still making this film, but doubly so given that he'll be making it for Netflix: the streaming giant's largely hands-off approach to filmmaking will almost certainly leave that brutal finale intact, and that's certainly what we want out of an In The Tall Grass adaptation.

We can't wait for this one and are dying to learn more. Stay tuned for updates as they become available, and be sure to go read In The Tall Grass before the movie gets here. I can all but guarantee you'll be knocked back on your heels by that novella's commitment to cruelty.

Netflix is probably the best shot for any film version of this to keep the ending intact. Fingers crossed.

A movie set for a Stephen King thriller is currently under construction in Perth South.

The Copperheart Entertainment production team in Toronto has confirmed they are building a set in the town just south of Stratford, for the thriller In the Tall Grass.

The small Ontario town has less than 4,000 residents and the town’s mayor couldn’t be happier to welcome film crews.

“They can pick anywhere in the world, in North America, and they pick little old Perth South, said Bob Wilhem.

The film will be a Netflix original, based on a novella written by Stephen King and his son Joe Hill.

Filming for the project is set to start sometime this summer.

City officials remain tight-lipped about the project, but say there could be more shoots scheduled for other locations around the area.

Construction crews were busy working on what appeared to be an old abandoned church on a rural Perth South road Monday, but it’s actually a new building being assembled for the filming of a King thriller.

Officials are being tight-lipped about the project, but a memo sent to Perth South public works staff confirmed it’s for the filming of In the Tall Grass, based on a novella written by King and his son, Joe Hill.

In early May, Netflix announced it picked up the rights to the thriller, which will be directed by Vincenzo Natali. It was reported to be filmed in Toronto this summer.

Multiple interview requests to Netflix, Copperheart Entertainment, the In the Tall Grass production team, and on-site construction crews were denied.

“We can’t really talk about it unfortunately. We’re bound by the studio,” a Copperheart spokesperson said.

Perth South public works staff said they were unable to discuss the project, as did Scott Abercrombie of nearby Gildale Farms.

“I know lots about it but I should pass (the request) on,” Abercrombie said.

Abercrombie did confirm the church was not on his property.

“Our farm is the farm with the tall grass (across the road),” he said.

The white building, designed to appear rundown, only has a facade and a right side. The left and rear portions are just framing.

“It’s half a church – for people that aren’t sure,” a construction crew member joked.

Another crew member said they’ve been working on the project for about three weeks.

Perth South Mayor Bob Wilhelm said he didn’t know much about the project, but it’s creating a buzz.

“I know it’s certainly created a lot of interest,” he said.

Several people stopped to take pictures Monday.

Aquaman star Patrick Wilson’s next project will see the actor return to horror in Netflix’s adaptation of Stephen King and Joe Hill’s short story In the Tall Grass.

First published in 2012 in the pages of Esquire magazine, the horror story written by King and his son Hill follows a pair of siblings that are lured into a vast field in Kansas only to find they may be trapped under the tall grass forever. Netflix acquired the rights to the story this past May with Vincenzo Natali (Cube) attached to write and direct the film adaptation.

Wilson replaces original star James Marsden who had to drop out of the project due to scheduling conflicts. The Conjuring actor leads the cast including Laysla de Oliveira (Code 8) and Harrison Gilbertson (Picnic at Hanging Rock).

In the Tall Grass marks the third adaptation of King’s work by Netflix as the premium streaming service premiered adaptations of King’s 1992 novel Gerald’s Game and his 2010 novella 1922 last year. Production on In the Tall Grass has already begun in Toronto and is expected for a 2019 release.
