Default does Stephen King have a book collection?

ok sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, but I was just wondering whether SK collects books. I know he reads a ton and probably has a killer library of his own. I'm just curious to see if anyone has come across an article or pics pertaining to this subject...

I know that in 1998, Stephen has asked Stu Tinker of Betts Bookstore to assemble 4 complete sets of all his 1st Editions for him so that he could present them to his 3 children for Christmas and keep one for himself. Up until that point, he didn't have a full set of his own books in his home. It took Stu several months to complete the sets and he had to ask Stephen was he okay going over budget to secure the Night Shifts and Carries in fine condition because they were very expensive at the time. Stephen said it was okay obviously. When I visited his Florida Avenue office in Bangor to pick up an inscribed book in 2003, Marsha DeFilippo showed me his office briefly (Stephen wasn't there, he was in Florida), and there was no collection there, besides other authors books behind his desk. I did not see any of his books. Mostly all his early manuscripts, proofs and Author's copies books were donated to Fogler Library, save for a few items that were lost or donated to family friends (ie: Salem's Lot First Draft manuscript and the rare non-oblong Carrie proof that was inscribed to his mother Nellie, who passed before it was published).

He once said in an interview that he had a first edition of Dracula but I don't recall him ever mentioning anything else.

I was mostly wondering more about a collection of other author's works because I've read here and there about books he has enjoyed or that influenced him. I'd be curious to see the kinds of things that he would choose for his own library. That's pretty interesting that he didn't even have his own works though. Thanks for the info!

Wait...wasn't there a recent interview with the entire family and the interviewer mentions an enormous library in the basement of their Bangor home? It was in the magazine with the entire family posing on the front lawn and Tabitha was on some tricycle.

Maybe I imagined the whole thing though.

Sounds simultaneously plausible and like a fever dream.

Have the mag, but didn't see that part.
I do know a bookseller with a creepy reputation actually had several books King wanted and exchanged some of them for books King would sign. Flatsigned-Tim Miller was the guy. We have a lengthy thread about him.

I'm sure King has an extensive library but I don't think he 'collects', as in: buying limited editions or otherwise collectible books.

King is probably given one copy each of all the limiteds by the publishers. Whether he keeps them or gives them away is another story.

We all know he certainly reads a lot. I imagine every publisher sends books to him hoping he'll give them a blurb for the cover.

In Lisa Rogak's "Haunted Heart" there is one chapter where Ridley Pearson mentioned that he was in the library in basement with Tabitha where he saw what was supposed to be about 17000 books and a door to smaller room with "TBR" on them. "TBR" meant "To Be Read", and behind that door there were about 30 books. Tabitha said that Steve had read all the books but those 30 still waiting

I have a lettered edition of The Gunslinger - which Stu said came from King's own library.

According to Stu, it was own by King until 2000. It is inscribed and dated 7/13/2000.

I'm sure if there is intelligent life somewhere out there in the universe, they are wise enough to stay away from us.
