Nice network try at a very difficult source material. Tim Curry, was great, but the rest of the cast seemed to be sleepwalking. As, Mattgreenbean says, the kids did better.

I don't remember anything about it except being very disappointed

I agree. The kids were wonderful, but the adult actors they cast were horrendous (well with the exception of Tim Curry of course, he was perfect and I'm sure still gives kids nightmares to this day). I really do hope this one gets remade properly.
