That's the impression I get, although I know a couple of people who are excited about it.

Godzilla had an almost $200.000.000 opening weekend (domestic plus foreign).
Of course there's going to be a sequel.
Which is fine with me - I liked it.

I liked it, too -- I knew going in that Godzilla wasn't going to be onscreen that much.

To be honest -- it's the first Godzilla movie I've ever seen.

This was my first experience with Godzilla as well, and I was not a fan. Godzilla seemed cool, but the people around him not so much.

Finally got around to seeing this and overall I enjoyed it. However, the plot was a little thin and they didn't spend near enough time with the monsters. Also,

    Spoiler:
I didn't care for the "Godzilla as our hero" angle. There was no story support for it (IMHO) and it was a little cheesy

Nevertheless, the effects and "size" of it all were top notch!!!

If I remember from all the other Godzilla movies made in the past (black and white versions) the giant always saved the city from the other monsters. That was his purpose, why he was made.

    Does whatever a spiderman does.

There was only one b/w Godzilla, the original from 1954. The others were all in color. And yes, sometimes he was the hero, but he's also been the bad guy.

Once again it's time to check for facts. Rodan,Mothra & Varan were NOT Godzilla spin offs they had their own stand alone features before they appeared in a Godzilla film.
    1. RODAN 1956
    2. VARAN 1958 (started out as a U.S.A. T.V. pilot)
    3. MOTHRA 1961
    FIRST GODZILLA FILM
1.RODAN & MOTHRA... GHIDORAH the THREE HEADED MONSTER 1964
    2.VARAN ...DISTROY ALL MONSTERS 1968 (ONLY A FLY-BY)
3.MOTHRA...MOTHRA VS GODZILLA (GODZILLA VS THE THING) 1964
