Wow, another movie watching year has just wrapped. I can't believe it. I watched 104 movies this year, down from 117 last year. There are a few reasons for this. One of the main reasons is that I probably wrote about movies more than any other year. I created my own website this year and even though it's just a little thing, I wanted it to look and feel as professional as possible. As you can imagine, that was quite time consuming and much of my free time was taken up with just tinkering with the layout and the formatting of the site.

Anyway, of the 104 films, I saw 47 of those in theaters. That's certainly a record for me. I thought it was a great year for film and the multitude of ways I watch movies continues to expand. Some of my favorite films of the year aren't even making their way to my local theaters, forcing me to be a little more creative.

I'm already eagerly anticipating 2015, but I still have quite a few 2014 films to watch before I yell "cut" on 2014. I look forward to discussing movies with all of you here as the year progresses.

It was my Mom's birthday on Tuesday so me, my sister and my Dad took her to see Big Eyes. It was her choice and I'd be lying if I didn't say I was lobbying really hard to see Big Eyes. My Mom initially wanted to see Annie or Night at the Museum. Thankfully, I presented a good case and she picked Big Eyes.

We all really enjoyed it, even my Dad, whose taste usually only leans towards action. The film starts out a little slow, but gets really interesting once Waltz comes into the picture. Amy Adams is a delight as usual, but Waltz (as usual) steals the show. His performance towards the end borders on cartoonish, but it's also some of the funniest parts of the film. The film is also visually stunning to look at. The use of some colors like pinks and blues really jump off the screen. I must say it was a breath of fresh air to see Tim Burton direct a "normal" film.

Big Eyes is also a great portrayal of how women were treated in our country back then. The scary thing is that it's not that long ago. The good news is that Big Eyes turns into a film with a positive message for women. It's not going to win an Oscar, but I really enjoyed it.

I hear the biggest problem with Christoph Waltz is what he had to work with, which is a shame, since he's so awesome.

There's enough for him to work with here. It's not what Tarantino gave him, but he makes it work. Like I said, he really shines towards the end of the film. Some people will hate it, but I thought it was great.
