It was, actually. Although they're of course not completely similar. Khan is a lot more of a badass in the novel too.

How many can I second or third?
It'll take a lot more than words and guns,
A whole lot more than riches and muscle.

The hands of the many must join as one.
And together we'll cross the river.

Seconding The Bell Jar and Foucault's Pendulum (can't believe that hasn't been seconded yet). Can I also nominate another Eco? The Name of the Rose.

I’m not sure exactly what has what votes. I know Jean posted the list yesterday, but there’ve been some votes since. Is it okay if I just list the books for which I’d like to vote? I’m not introducing anything new, just voting on current options.

    Thank you.

    My votes:
    11/22/63
    1984
    American Psycho
    As I Lay Dying
    Bell Jar, The
    Clockwork Orange, A
    Fahrenheit 451
    Finnegan's Wake
    Foundation
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, The
    Long Walk, The
Moon Is A Harsh Mistress, The
    Ringworld
    Sound and the Fury, The
    Stand, The
    Stranger in a Strange Land
    Tarzan of the Apes
    To Kill a Mockingbird
    Weaveworld

One more vote for Tarzan would be wonderful! One of my all-time favorite novels, and just republished by the Library of America for its 100th anniversary.

WOW!! my Wolfie is here, and The Bell Jar has secondings!!! the only other thing that could make bears as happy would be if someone voted for The Bear Went Over the Mountain, an incredibly awesome novel.

Ask not what bears can do for you, but what you can do for bears. (razz)
When one is in agreement with bears one is always correct. (mae)

Guys, it's no use nominating now, there's no chance the new nominations can be seconded in time. I will close the secondings and start the voting tomorrow (in about 16 hours).

So please second while there's still time!!!

I just noticed that Summer of Night won't be making it on

I'll add a point to Heart-Shaped Box, but I don't think it matters.

Summer of Night so far has your nomination and my seconding

there's still hope someone else will vote for it and for HSB. I am counting your vote in anyway. Such a lot of awesome novels are going to be left behind, it's tragic!

I can vote for HSB. I haven't read it since I was hospitalized for stress, but it sure helped me then.
It'll take a lot more than words and guns,

I'd love to do a big batch at once, but look at the rules in the original post.
OK I see what you mean Mike. However, the rules be damned to a degree IMHO I was caught up in the excitement and that should be a concern for this thread in order to maintain relevance and popularity, no?

    Spoiler:
Plus, I am old and feeble and I was a "Director" for two whole days!!! LOL

Also, I don't run the show's, I just hype them!!! LOL LOL

That's alright. Live and learn. We all make mistakes.

Okay, you must be learning disabled. Otherwise, such shameless dishonesty would be just unbelievable.
    So, I apologize; my bad.

I believe someone else must have made a similar mistake. Dishonesty has nothing to do with it. I am sure some of those have slipped my attention, too, so I am very grateful that you've pointed it out. I will remove one point from Murder after I re-check the history (sometimes people nominate out of turn, I don't accept the nomination, someone else nominates it etc.; it will all be far less confusing in the voring rounds).

ETA: Merlin's seconding for Murder is now replaced with mine (I think it should enter the first voting round)
