Hey, Herb-- THINNER has eight illustrations. The lettered edition will have the artwork portfolio, of course. And I think Steve will sign as Steve.
Best wishes
Pete

WANTED
Signed 1st Edition of Storm of The Century (Paperback)
Shot in the dark as I should have talked to PS Publishing personally when I already had #289 of Christine and Pet Semetery from them already. They were purchased from CD when they were listing them way back when and I know they never listed Thinner and I can't remember if they listed Carrie . So. Does anyone have copy #289 of Carrie or Thinner from PS Publishing they were willing to sell or trade? Thanks. PM me if you do .
Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality. Edgar Allan Poe
Still 3 copies left! seriously. Stephen King. Aka Bachman. For my copy PLEASE!
Pete would you tell us when Skelton Crew will go on sale?
It's the last one of this series right? Thank you for any help you can give us.
From the Carrie owners i know at least two who refused to buy it - there are maybe more.
my guess would even be that there are around 6-7 carrie owners who did not buy thinner, 1-2 who bought two (maybe more) , 1-2 who stepped in new without having carrie (maybe less) and this 3 left
but thats of course just a feeling from what i read here , as i was not involved in this edition.
I wonder if these 3 non-sales will merely reduce PS's profit by $10k or if it means they'll make a loss on the project?
If your deeply concerned, just send Pete a check for $1K. 10 people do that, and he'll definitely make a profit.
Hi Troops! First off, I don't think I'm gonna ask Steve to sign the book as "aka Richard Bachman" etc. I don't think it's an inquiry/request that he would appreciate. MI could be wrong but I'm not prepared to ask.
Yes, we have three copies of the deluxe THINNER still without a home. I think it was always going to be thus but I reckon when folks see the giveaway artworks from Les Edwards the last copies will go.
The SKELETON CREW order page will go up in early May. The anniversary edition of Joe's 20TH CENTURY GHOSTS will probably be up before that
Thanks, gang. We're a bit strapped for time at the moment with EasterCon looming so I can't really shoot the breeze with you all (more's the pity!). But I'll keep watching and dropping in as often as I can. Many thanks one and all for your continued interest and support. You're a good crowd,
Best
Pete
I always liked Thinner. It was campy with Swedish speaking gypsies and mob guys who go rogue. Lots of nutty stuff that is lacking from most of King's more recent books. Just a fun story without worrying about the NY Times book reviews. It probably is not selling as well because it is a Bachman book.
I used the following rough sum to justify buying Carrie.
Limitation of signature - 1,000
Importance of the book - 1,000
Likely production values - 500
Original art by Chadbourne - 95
Total value - 2,595 GBP
If I apply the same logic to Thinner.
Limitation of signature - 1,000
Importance of the book - 100
Likely production values - 500
Original art by Edwards - 695 ????
Total value - 2,295 GBP
It's going to have to be some pretty special artwork.
I have no dog in this fight. But if that is an accurate take on King's mindset, I find that disappointing. That King could not be bothered to scribble three extra words for the 24 people willing to shell out that kind of incredible sum -- or would not appreciate even being dared broached to do so -- smacks of a prima donna attitude that is frankly unbecoming.
I understand and respect that he has a great deal of demands on his time, but even someone at his level of success should try and keep things in a bit more reasonable perspective.
I don't think King has anything to do with how much the book costs. It seems like the fact that he's agreed to sign the books and help sustain PS is pretty nice. Pete is just saying that he doesn't want to be too greedy/pushy with his requests of King.
However, we have a saying here in the U.S. "Ask and ye shall receive." I'm sure King would consider signing as Bachman if asked. Calling King a "prima donna" because Pete wants to be considerate seems a little unfair.
"That which you think, becomes your world" Matheson
I think it is totally wrong and unfair to expect Pete to approach Stephen King with that kind of request. If someone wants to request a specific inscription in their copy of Thinner, then they are free to contact King through Marsha Defilippo to ask if he would be willing to do that.
Leave Pete out of the equation.
I'll stand by what I posted. However, t-dogz, please note that I did not involve Pete in my commentary whatsoever. I respect and admire Pete's work and consider him a fine gentleman.
Slightly o/t but just wanted to say thanks again to Pete for releasing a 10th Anniversary Edition for 20th Century Ghosts at £25. With all the other stuff coming out this year this is very appreciated.

A fine gentleman? Wow, great, I'll accept that.
Just to clear the air on the thorny issue of Steve either signing or not signing. I've put the question to him on a few occasions now and on some he says 'Yes' while for others it's a polite and good-natured refusal. He knows, of course, the value of his signature on a limited edition. For those of us he grants the occasionally thumbs-up, I'm guessing he recognises that the vast bulk of that additional revenue goes against the expense of projects that, while every bit as good and worthwhile they may be when measured against his own output, are unable to reward the investment that a publisher can make. I could mention several--many, in fact--titles on which PS found take-up slow, But, by golly I'm glad I did them because they're particularly fine books. But please do know this: Steve has no involvement on fixing the price. Onwards. -- PETE
