Congratulations to all that got one! I'm pretty sure everyone who wanted one got it.

I can't help thinking that it wasn't just the price of the item but the production of the book. For example, if it was a lettered edition (26 copies) of, let's say, The Talisman 3, illustrated by Michael Whelan, the book would sell out in less than 5 minutes. Or let's say Carrie, but illustrated by Whelan and remarqued by him as well. Just one original remarque (no need for 26 different remarques). Just five minutes and it'd be gone.

I like Chadbourne's artwork, but as many I think the King market had more than enough in a short period of time. I remember that for SubPress, after some of the illustrations made by Mark Geyer for The Green Mile were shown, many cancelled their orders. This is not the same scenario but well...I think you understand what I mean.

It sold out in 40 minutes? Well played, PS Publishing!

Clearly the choice of artist was satisfactory for enough paying collectors.

Congratulations to all who took the plunge!

Maybe it's just me, but I think this is another sad day for the Stephen King collecting market.
If this is new trend for signed limited's then I'm done, I simply can no longer afford it.
Normally when a new signed limited comes around, everybody on DT.org is pumped up & excited, posting "yeaaaa I got one"
I think those days are done.

I disagree, Cook. Most signed limited editions have more than 26 copies. It feels premature to suppose this may be the new norm.

I dunno.... another publisher was recently selling SK limited's at a pretty steep price with "NO" signature by king.

The funny thing is if it sold out so fast - whether it's an hour, or three hours - it was actually priced too LOW.

I'm being a little facetious, but not by much...

Let's hope it isn't. Otherwise collecting King will become a 'rich man's (or woman's) sport' and will take some of us out of the game. Which will be disappointing. I know it was a 26 copy edition, but hopefully this, and other recent/forthcoming releases don't start to drive up the price point on new S/L's. I could be wrong, but from a publisher's standpoint, if you just sold 26 books at $4K+, or 52 books at $1K, why not do it again.

A few things that I must say:

    1) Carrie is technically a "reprint", but so is the Salem's Lot S/L (and their gift editions), as well as the IT S/L and all of its editions. This "reprint" issue IMO is a non-issue.

    2) To COOK! You simply cannot start getting melodramatic on all of us by suggesting that the Carrie lettered (only 26 copies) is somehow representative of a growing trend with Stephen King collectables. This was just one book. Also, this was a lettered edition. Any king lettered edition is expensive as hell, and not a lot of people can afford them, and not everyone on DT.ORG will be saying "yeeeeeaaa I got one!" I mean, there are only 26 copies to go around.

    3) To WEBSTAR! You were agreeing with Cook so I must say something as well. When the price of this book was announced we all had to decide for ourselves whether or not we wanted to buy one. Some of us that were on the fence about it felt that they needed "reassurance" that it was either a good decision to get it, or a bad one. God forbid you have to make a decision on your own. So Webstar, I kinda feel that you were on the fence and were searching for advice on what you should do.

For those of you who were frozen with indecision, give it all a rest. You could have gotten one, you just didn't want it. Let those who purchased their Lettered Carrie enjoy it. It WILL be an amazing book.

Congrats to the folks who were able to purchase a copy!

And even BIGGER CONGRATS to those who were not foolish enough to buy one. (including me!)

That is not meant to be a slight at anyone who purchased a copy. If it was in your price range, more power to ya.

But for the vast majority of folks the price pushed it out of reach (or SENSE at the very least).

Sad to see that not everyone is happy. It seems a bittersweet event.

I agree with those who have predicted a cash grab by the publishers on future editions and rising prices.

Hi Guys -- I just spent an interesting hour or so reading through the postings here and also my busting-at-the-seams mailbox and the whole PS team will be having a meeting in a few days to go through comments, both kisses and hisses* (* courtesy of one of Richard Hughes's mailboxes in the ACG comic books line of the 1950's and '60's -- the other one that springs to mind is 'Bouquets and Brickbats'). To all who bought a copy, my congratulations--you won't regret it. I'll be writing to you all individually to sort out letters etc. And we'll be sending you an acknowledgement tomorrow (Monday) which will include an invite to the Prom AND a first glance at some of the artwork on our upcoming editions of THINNER and SKELETON CREW. Okay, I'm off to have some breakfast now. Once again, thanks one and all. Have a great Sunday. Best wishes -- Pete
