I was happy to see that King is signing the Skeleton Crew Lettered edition....I ordered 3 Thinner copies from PS Publishing and had no real issues selling 2 and keeping one for myself. That puts me in position to get 3 Skeleton Crew Lettered, and then 3 matching Salem's Lettereds etc. I, myself, am a big fan of the artwork....With Carrie, I know Glenn Chadbourne is not everyone's favorite cup of tea (plus he's done like a gazillion remarques/art for books in the last few years), but I generally like his work....Les Edwards' pieces for Thinner were a no-brainer for me. I really like his depictions for Thinner and given that Thinner was almost $1000 cheaper than Carrie due to the exchange rate, I'm glad I got saddled in with three copies behind the Betts Books name.
Dragline : Nothin'. A handful of nothin'. You stupid mullet head. He beat you with nothin'. Just like today when he kept comin' back at me - with nothin'.
Luke : Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
If Pete prices them at $10,000 each will you go through with you agreement to buy 3?
No...as a collector I weigh "want" and appreciation potential....Guaranteed to lose BIG $$ priced at $10,000 so would immediately nix the deal in my mind....besides, I could not honorably sell to my customers a $10,000 book I did not think was a good investment.
Now here is a "flip" alternative to consider. About the only "significant" Dark Tower item I am missing from my personal collection is a Sphere UK Gunslinger Proof. Would I pay $10,000 (insanely overpriced) for a copy....I believe I would! Even though I would believe there is no appreciation potential, filling that final hole in my collection would be worth throwing cash at.

Of course I was being silly in suggesting it would be priced at $10K, but I too have told Pete I wanted a copy matching my Thinner letter and then it dawned on me that I don't even know the price of the book yet. How silly is that? But I feel confident Pete will price it in line with Thinner.
I have gotten past the point where I will pay way over value for an item. I was recently offered a copy of a proof that has long been missing from my collection (Four Past Midnight light blue proof) but I passed on it because I thought it was too high. That is different from your Sphere Gunslinger proof which would sort of complete a DT set but still represents a certain mindset. And, as I said in another thread, if the Thinner lettered is $10K I am out.
David
someday we can talk about that proof want of yours....
$10K is a nice number...
Maybe some of you can help me make up my mind:
*I do like the PS lettered Thinner (going by what I've seen.)
*I can afford it
But.....
*If I buy the one remaining copy, I just know I'd have to get the upcoming lettered as well.
*meaning, a huge chunk of my savings...on my bookshelves.
Please help me make up my mind to either spend a near-ridiculous amount of money on some nice (hopefully) books, or use a bit of common sense (??) and forget about it.
Anyone here who has the book (Thinner): do you think it was money well spent?

I bought CARRIE because it was King's first book published. I do not see a "VALUE" in owning Thinner without the lettered Carrie. I do not see THINNER as a needful thing for me. I continue to buy the series because i am looking forward to Salem's Lot. Thinner and Skeleton Crew are the fillers until Salems LOT arrives.
so i guess i can go either way. Shame you dont have carrie to match your "SET" or letter.
Thanks for your input!
I passed on Carrie mainly because of the price. I could see no justification for it.
(Neither for Thinner, mind you, but I like what PS has done with this title.)

I agree with Glen... 100%. They will make Salems outstanding.. have to as we already have an amazing one. Saying that... Thinner is far better than Carrie in my opinion.

Congratulations Siep. Beautiful book, artwork, cover and yummy smell. If you continue the series prepare to be broke. Skeleton Crew, 'Salem's Lot and was Night Shift mentioned at one point for future release by PS? I expect 'Salem's will not be cheap if the Lettered is also split into three novellas.
Congrats, Siep. If I'd had the spare cash I'd have bought it too. You did the right thing.
Enjoy!
Well Bob, I had my credit card ready to input numbers. I was a shoe in on that fateful day that this was announced many moons ago... I was full of expectations and excitement... I was ready for one of the greats to take the reins and make this THE BOOK to own. Alas, the artist chosen fell short for me for such a book. I was saddened... then the price hit me like a Starkblast. I have to say Thinner brought my interest back. Edwards is fantastic and the "look" and production of this intrigued me. I passed only cause I would need the set (if you can call these lettereds a set)... and I am not paying that for Carrie. Never.

PLEA to PETE at PS PUBLISHING!!! Please keep the prices similar to Thinner on ALL future editions. I work two jobs and can't afford another "Carrie" priced edition!!!! Feel free to spread them out a little too! I am in no hurry to spend 1/4 of my salary on SK signed limiteds this year. I work two jobs just to support my habit and keep the debtor police off my doorstep!
I thought that was probably the case. The choice of the artist. Although I must caution you to be careful and choose your words wisely. The Carrie artist is one of the sacred cows of this site (along with Betts and Cemetery Dance). If you say too much (or anything for that matter) that is not complimentary you run the risk of anonymous negative feedback.
Or less. Even though Thinner was priced below Carrie, it was still priced high. A successful deal to me is when both parties walk away from it happy. Slapping thousands of dollars on credit cards isn't something that should make you happy. Maybe I'm alone in this opinion. Be kind to us Pete.
