Where did King give this announcement? Can't seem to find it online. Was it in an interview?

Tonight Steve announced that he was done the second draft. He said that critics have been very kind with him regarding 11/22/63, and they've said maybe he was getting away from all that horror stuff. They won't know what hit them with Dr. sleep, he said. It's a goddamn scary book.

He must have finished the second draft in two days as the Moderator on the SK website indicated on 11/9 that the first draft had just been completed!

He said it at McKinney North High School on Friday night. I was there.

Wasn't King miffed at Centipede over the 'Salem's Lot 2005 edition? I seem to recall some kind of dust-up with him and CP.

I started reading The Shining, and I like it a lot. The Torrances have just taken over the Overlook and Jack is having issues with some wasps. Is it just me, or does this book feel like The Talisman?t

Miffed wouldn't be accurate. Initially King was lavish in his praise for the Centipede 'Salem's Lot (actual letters of this nature from him to the publisher have been posted here) but at some point after publication he made some very unflattering remarks about both the book and the publisher that were out of bounds.

Jerad went through Arthur Greene, King's attorney, to get approval for the 'SALEM'S LOT limited edition. So he went to Greene again with his THE SHINING proposal. Greene presented it to King who said "No" but Greene told Jerad to ask again in six months or so because King frequently changes his mind on stuff like that depending on his mood that day. So, in six months Jerad asked Greene again as he was told to do. I guess King was in a particularly bad mood because he again said "No" and followed up with statements in interviews like "this guy keeps bugging me," etc. I think that his once positive statements about the 'SALEM'S LOT edition changed to negative about this time.

I only know Jerad's side of the story but he really wasn't "bugging" King. He really wanted to do the limited edition and was just following Greene's suggestions.

Blatant namedropping alert:

I went to a VERY bestselling author friend's house recently and he had boxes of books sent to him by hopeful lesser authors looking for blurbs, promotion, etc.

I think it's very fine line between an honest creative idea, and seeming - unintentionally - like a pest. Jerad was totally doing the right thing, the right way, but if at any point it SEEMS like being a pest, then it doesn't matter...the perception is all that matters.

So it was unfair...but seeing all those boxes at my friends house made me appreciate the massive demands these guys are under in terms of their time, energy and attention. It makes me look at this a little - just a little - differently. I still think SK treated Jerad wrong.

I read THE SHINING a while after THE TALISMAN and, yes, I noticed a similar feel as well - but that wore off as the story progressed.
