Default Who will be the first female President of the United States?

The election is nearly upon us, and by "us" I mean those in the United States, and by the "election" I mean of the next President of the United States - but I think this could be a fun and thoughtful discussion for everyone, regardless of where you are or your politics. As most of you know, many countries around the world currently have or have had in their past a woman as the head of state. Wikipedia even has a nifty table: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...heads_of_state (in Ireland they had two female Presidents back to back in the 1990s). So, clearly, we are way behind, because the United States, obviously, has never had a female head of state, even going back to pre-Washington days.

So, I thought this would be a nice intellectual debate as to whom you could realistically see as the first female President of the United States. Some people are openly speculating that a woman may very well be at the top of a ticket the next time around. So, I picked eight women, four Democrats and four Republicans, that I think have been mentioned as the likeliest candidates, and put them on this poll. But this in no way limits our potential discussion, so feel free to throw out your own choices, there certainly can be others I didn't think of. This isn't so much a political (though I realize you can't keep politics out when talking about potential presidential candidates) as a general discussion about the possibility of the first female President of the United States.

I would LOVE if Condoleezza Rice tried, but I think someone told me she has no interest in it.

Unfortunately, I think the position is one of those where the ones who would be best at it are the ones who don't want it, regardless of party or sex.

    Dr. Jill Stein?
Probably not, but it would be nice if she was.

She is the Green Party candidate this time around.

    Back on topic...

The 1st female USA President will be the first female Vice-President. i.e "non-elected". The same group who ordered JFKs killing, will snuff out the President, thus giving the job to the female.

Balls when it comes to foreign policy?

Terrorists leaders killed during Obama's presidency:

al Qaeda’s chief of Pakistan operations, Abu Hafs al-Shahri
‘Atiyah ‘Abd al-Rahman, the deputy leader of al Qaeda
One of the group’s most dangerous commanders, Ilyas Kashmiri
AQAP senior operatives Ammar al-Wa’ili, Abu Ali al-Harithi, and Ali Saleh Farhan
Al-Qa’ida in East Africa (AQEA) senior leader Harun Fazul
Tehrik e-Taliban Pakistan leader Baitullah Mahsud
Jemayah Islamiya operational planner Noordin Muhammad Top
AQEA planner Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan
    Haqqani network commander Muhammad Haqqani
    Lashkar-e Jhangvi leader Qari Zafar
    al Qaeda operative Hussein al-Yemeni
al Qaeda in Iraq leaders Abu Ayyub al-Masri and Abu Omar al-Baghdadi.
al Qaeda’s number three commander, Sheik Saeed al-Masr
    al Qaeda commander Hamza al-Jawfi
    and of course, Osama Bin-Laden.

I'd say in the areas of foreign policy where he needs to have big balls, he has gigantic ones. The guy needs a wheelbarrow to carry them. People seem to think that because two embassies issues apologies in an attempt to quell the angry mob at the gates that Obama is wimpy all of a sudden. The embassies issued the apologies on their own, not under order from the President.

I am not certain I would want Hillary as President. I was a big fan of her husband in the position and I agree with her on quite a lot of stuff, but she is doing a good job as Secretary of State and I am not sure she should be pulled away from that for what is much more of a figurehead position. This isn't as off topic as it seems, because you say that you would vote for Hillary over Obama because of foreign policy issues, but aside form the war aspects, the Secretary of State has much more influence on foreign policy as a whole than the president and if you have a problem with the state of out foreign policy, Hillary is the one in that position.

OchrisO, let's not devolve this into a discussion of Obama's leadership or lack thereof. The question is who would be the first female president. I'd like to see Condy Rice in there, or even Nickki Hailey. Both, I think, would do a better job than our current White House resident, but that's just my opinion.

I did read the entire thing. You spent, however, at least 2/3 of the posting praising Obama's leadership in foreign policy and then discussed how Hillary might be okay.

By the way, anything coming out of our embassies is as if it's the administration issuing it. It's easy to say that it was not authorized after it was issued, but such things are supposed to be vetted BEFORE they are issued.

It wasn't cleared with Washington before it was issued. That's pretty straight-forward and obvious. It was done in a panic to keep the wolves at the door at bay.

I also tied it together and made it not off topic by discussing the fact that the person disliked what they called Obama's foreign policy while liking the female Secretary of State who has far more direct influence on foreign policy as it currently stands for the position of president(thus pointing out that the dislike isn't really about foreign policy).

Also, 2/3 is a rather large estimate when considering that the majority of what you are considering 2/3 is a list that almost no one likely bothered to do more than skim over.

What it amounts to is that I like the guy who isn't your guy, so you see it as super off topic. *shrug*

For the third time, the brunt of what I am discussing is how, if someone is displeased with the current state of foreign policy, then they would be less pleased with Hillary Clinton as president than they are with the current one.

You can't discuss political figures and their eligibility or efficacy in an office without discussing either politics as a whole, or the politicians they are associated with.

How in thirty-seven hells is that off topic?
