Everybody, including Roland, calls Oy "he". Roland used to live in the world where bumblers were kept as pets (and it is not all that difficult to tell the gender of canine, feline and other such mammals). Do you think that if Oy was female, Roland would have never noticed that during all their travelling together and wouldn't have corrected the mistake or even mentioned it? The fact that nobody ever said "look, we've been wrong all this time, it's a girl!" is proof enough it was a boy, even though nobody bothered to explicitly confirm it time and again.
