There was also a chapbook with the same extract released by Hodder & Stoughton at the same time. I had it, but binned it.

Those chapbooks are fairly scarce now. I have one. Too bad you got rid of yours.

Were the two excerpts of Firestarter in Omni edited to work as stand-alone stories like "Monster in the Closet" or "The Tale of Gray Dick" or are they just straight excerpts with little to no modifications?

If they are just excerpts, can anybody advise as to what pages (as numbered from the HC) each one covers?

They were just extracts, not stand alone stories. I sold my copies so I cannot help with the page numbers.

Thanks for the information Mr. Rabbit Trick. Looks like there's no reason to track down those issues.

And, anybody correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, since 'Just After Sunset', the only other short fiction and poems that have been published are:

Feb 09 - "Throttle" (written with Joe Hill) (in 'He is Legend')
Feb 09 - "Ur" (through Amazon Kindle)
Jul 09 - "Morality" (in Esquire)
Aug 09 - "Mostly Old Men" (poem) (in McSweeney #40)
Nov 09 - "The Bone Church" (poem) (in Playboy)

I don't know if you want to include "The Old Man's Ticker" that was collected in The Big Book of Necon, published in August 2009. It was originally published in Necon XX back in 2000, but there were only 333 copies of that published.

Hello, all.... I read this thread posted by nate and found it really interesting, although I have some different information about some books...

Here is my list of world true first editions (information about lots of books are missing)... The information about The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon and the later books were obtained through Scribner, Hodder and the limited edition publishers...

CYCLE OF THE WEREWOLF - First edition was published by Land of Enchantment in 1983.

EYES OF THE DRAGON – This book was published as a limited edition in 1984 by Philtrum Press, three years before the trade edition.

IT – First published in Germany (translated to German) by Phantasia Press, as “ES”. This information is widely accepted by various sources in the web.

THE DARK HALF – The UK Hodder edition was published in oct. 1989, days before the US Viking edition (released in nov., 1989).

GERALD'S GAME – A bookseller, in his website, says that the true first edition of this book was published by BCA (England) in 1992.

DOLORES CLAIBORNE – The same bookseller says that the true first edition of this book was also first published by BCA (England) in the end of 1992.

INSOMNIA – Mark V. Ziesing published a limited edition in jun., 1994 (according to SK website), months before the Viking edition.

DESPERATION – Donald M. Grant published a limited edition in aug. 17, 1996, one month before the US Viking edition.

BLACK HOUSE – Published simultaneously in the US by Random House and the UK by HarperCollins in sep. 2001. A limited edition was released one year later by Donald M. Grant.

BAG OF BONES – First published in the UK by Hodder (aug. 20, 1998). The US edition was released by Scribner in sep. 22, 1998.

THE GIRL WHO LOVED TOM GORDON - According to Scribner website, the e-audio edition of this novel was published in the US in apr. 1, 1999. The print edition was released in apr. 6, 1999 by Scribner, the same day as UK Hodder edition.

HEARTS IN ATLANTIS – Published simultaneously in the US, by Scribner, and the UK, by Hodder, in sep. 14, 1999.

EVERYTHING'S EVENTUAL - Published simultaneously in the US, by Scribner, and the UK, by Hodder, in mar. 19, 2002.

FROM A BUICK 8 – First published in the UK by Hodder in aug. 28, 2002. The US Scriber edition was released in sep. 24, 2002. The limited edition was published by Cemetery Dance in oct., 2002. (Was the german edition published before?)

DREAMCATCHER – First published in the US by Scribner in mar. 20, 2001. The UK was released by Hodder in mar. 29, 2001. (Was the german edition published before?)

THE DARK TOWER V – Donald M. Grant published limited editions of this book two weeks before the US and UK trade editions, which were released in nov. 4, 2003.

THE DARK TOWER VI - Donald M. Grant published limited editions of this book two weeks before the US and UK trade editions, which were released in jun. 8, 2004.

THE DARK TOWER VII - Donald M. Grant published limited editions of this book two weeks before the US and UK trade editions, which were released in sep. 21, 2004.

COLORADO KID – First published in the US by Hard Case Crime in 2005. The UK edition was only released two years later.

CELL – First published in the US by Scribner in jan. 24, 2006. In the UK, the book was published by Hodder in feb. 27, 2006.

LISEY'S STORY – Borders' website informs that the ebook edition of this book was available in jul. 31, 2006. But Scribner's website says that the ebook was released simultaneously with the print edition in oct. 24, 2006 (the same day as UK Hodder edition). I don't know which information to trust, if Border's or Scribner's.

BLAZE – The US Scribner and the UK Hodder editions were published simultaneously in jun. 12, 2007.

DUMA KEY – First published in the US by Scribner in jan. 22, 2008. The UK Hodder edition was published two days later.

JUST AFTER SUNSET – The italian edition entitled “Il Crepuscolo”, by Sperling & Kupfer, was released in october, 2008, therefore before the US and UK editions. The US (Scribner) and UK (Hodder) editions were published simultaneously in nov. 11, 2008.

UNDER THE DOME – The italian edition (The Dome, by Sperling & Kupfer) was also published before the english language editions, in oct. 16, 2009. The US limited and trade editions were published simultaneously by Scribner in nov. 10, 2009. The UK Hodder edition was released in this same day.

BLOCKADE BILLY – Cemetery Dance published a limited edition of this book in apr., 19 or 20, 2010. Scribner released its trade edition in may 25, 2010.

FULL DARK, NO STARS – The US Scribner and UK Hodder editions are scheduled to be published simultaneously in nov. 9, 2010. Cemetery Dance limited editions will only be released in dec., 2010.

I'm of the opinion that any information is good information. All the information pages you've archived, maybe have a link to them on the main page? For example, all of this is good info, and speaking as someone who hasn't even delved into the archived threads yet, it would be terrible to not have the info anymore.

I love this thread! Thanks to Nate for starting it and especially to brasileiro for all the specific dates for each book. One of my rules is to try and get the world true first edition of every book and first magazine/book appearance of each short story.

Earlier today, I was trying to determine if Pet Sematary came out earlier than the listed Nov. 14 date. I'm fairly certain it was released in October because I first read it all in one sitting on Halloween night. When I was writing my introduction here I looked up the date to confirm the release date and when it said Nov. I changed it thinking I had it wrong after all these years. You don't forget reading Pet Sematary on Halloween!

I was also looking up exactly what month the Philtrum Press edition of The Eyes Of The Dragon came out in 1984. There's no info about it anywhere but I seem to recall the lottery being in January of that year. I just found this which would indicate the book actually came out in 1985.

The Eyes of the Dragon (Philtrum no ISBN, Feb ’85 [Jan ’85], $120.00, 314pp, hc) Juvenile fantasy novel, in a signed, boxed, numbered edition of 1250 copies, with illustrations by Kenneth R. Linkhauser. A special giant-size (8.5" x 13," 4.5 lb) first edition on fine paper with linen slipcase and binding.
This make sense to me as my memory was the lottery was in January and King gave The Plant away in Christmas' of '82, '83 and '85 so it was a gift in '84 and the lottery in January of '85. We probably received our copies in February of '85. The Trade ads for the lottery in Locus, etc...were around the end of 1984.
