Default First Appearances - King's Books

I have a request for help from you all. My collecting focus has always been on "firsts." and whenever possible I seek out the US proof and the true first appearance of the book. Sometimes that is the US edition, sometimes UK/other and even a magazine quite commonly. As far as I know there isn't a resource listing the first appearance anywhere and I have been keeping a list as I come across information in random places. Some of it is firm (German "From a Buick 8") some is questionable (first 2 "Green Mile" books were first released in France). What I would appreciate from everyone is to look over the following list and confirm/question/corrected the information as I have it listed. Thanks in advance. It will be appreciated and I think an asset to the site as it's becoming the all-encompassing King-information center.

for the Green Mile, I do confirm that the 2 first episods were firstly published in France... the others i dont think so...

What I know (the dates are the official publications dates, not the printing informations..)

1 : France 11 march (printed in february...24th? or no date?... dont remember & cannot check)
    USA : 27 march / Germany : 30 march
"The limited hardcover edition was printed in February of 1996, some 15 days before the French trade edition in wrappers"
note : the limited hardcover and the 'common' do have the same printing informations...
    ________________
2: The 17th of April, or the 25 of april : aint sure.
    Germany : 30th of April, USA = ?

"True world first edition. According to Mr. Tyson Blue, the French edition went on sale five days ahead of the American edition."
    ________________
3: in France, the 21th of May (or 24 according to Tyson Blue).
Germany: 28th may, USA : 29th of May

The French publication date was May 24, and Mr. Tyson Blue said that he has an American review copy, moving the American publication date forward from May 29 to May 24.

That's an impressive list of information, Nate. I'm going to break this off into its own thread for easier future reference.

Fabulous idea Nate. I hope you don't mind sharing the list with us in The Stephen King Catalog. I am interested in hearing from John Hanic, and a couple others who I am sure can lend assistance/provide more info.

As soon as it's finalized I would love to see it have a permanent home. I know I looked long and hard for a list like this with no results. I finally started keeping track in the Excel program I use to record my books.

One of the problems in listing the "firsts" of King's works lies in the fact that a number of King's newer works, from at least about Cell on, were issued in a trade paperback edition (by Hodder & Stoughton, King's UK publisher), often in Australia, before the official published date. I got my copy of the trade paperback of Cell on February 8, 2007, but it was ordered (and postmarked) on January 18, while the official publication date was January 24. I think the same thing occured with both Lisey's Story and Blaze. I did not order either of those, though.

Perhaps we need a bit more clarification.
For novels, do you wish to establish the first proof/arc, the World First Trade and or limited edition, as well as establish what if any is the first excerpt?
For collections of short stories/novellas it could get complicated (though possible), to list each and every first appearance of every story in the book.
Do you wish to make the list in order of absolute first appearance-even if only an excerpt, or perhaps list it simply as
    First Proof
World First Trade/Limited (and is that in itself established by "mistaken" delivery of a book, or actual "street date" of the book in whatever language, country and form it first is officially released?)
First Excerpt (What if it is an electronic-web realease?)
    ?
I know I am complicating matters, but the idea is outstanding, i just think if you/we establish the best criteria possible at the onset, things will progress quicker.

My focus here was to establish the first released-to-the-public version. Where that is a limited edition, I tried to include the trade edition too as they are more accessible to the budget collector like me. I would look more at the intended street date than the accidental releases and early shipments. As for the recent Australian books, are they released early or just sent out with the expectation that they wouldn't arrive until after the publication date?

I realize this gets sticky when trying to establish the first appearance. Trying to take the excerpts/proofs/foreing editions into account gets confusing. The rule I was using was the first complete, finished product that could be purchased. I then tried to see if that version had an excerpt previously released. Does this make sense? I am open to suggestions.

    I am clearer now. Thanks.
Looks like the short story/novella could be great list also, but whoever tackles that one has a lot of work cut out for them.

Patrick, Wiz, Karen, Daghain, and all members, I think we should break out two threads-One for First appearances of a SK book, and one for first appearances of SK's short stories. Perhaps both should be lists in the Catalog, and be uniformly titled. Do we do the lists by title, chronologically
    or both? Wiki update capability?
    Thoughts, and suggestions?

Patrick, Wiz, Karen, Daghain, and all members, I think we should break out two threads-One for First appearances of a SK book, and one for first appearances of SK's short stories.

Perhaps both should be lists in the Catalog, and be uniformly titled. Do we do the lists by title, chronologically
    or both? Wiki update capability?

    Thoughts, and suggestions?
We are of the same mind. When I saw the amazing list that Mr. R.T. posted, my first thought was that it deserves its own thread.

Regarding how we list them, I'd like the others to tell us what they want to see, especially natehorning and Mr. Rabbit Trick as they are the ones who have done the amazing initial work.

    EDIT: Separate thread now exists.

I am fine with however you feel it fits best. I think a seperate list is more fun to look through and use as a checklist but if you feel it is better incorporated into the King Catalogue listing for each book that is fine. As for the short story list, I would love to see it available as both a complete list and seperated by each collection they are included in with the uncollected ones grouped together. Just my opinion, it's your call Mr. Rabbit Trick.

You did the work on your list, so I think it should stay as it is. As far as adding to the catalog, if it was added, it would be an individual list, not blended into any other part. Kind of like Wizardsrainbow list of S/L DTI books, or the S/L thread.
At least that's what I think. All rules are firmly etched in jello.

I answered this already, but it must have got lost.
I think seperate lists would be better and easier to update. They should be listed in chronological order as new items can be added at the bottom.

Sounds like we're all in agreement then.

Just a note that all this information can be found in Michael Colling's Horror Plum'd book. It takes a bit of digging, though, because the indices aren't the greatest, but it's all there.

There are now 2 list threads out there. One for short stories, and one for first appearances of King's books.
As for chronological, or alphabetical, the list can be edited fairly easy either way.
I would like to hear what others say-particularly those who created them.

Identifying Number on Copyright page: ???? - CN 6975
    Pre-Publication Excerpt?: No

    Title: Dolores Claiborne
    First Appearance: BCA
