Getting through this book was such a chore. I would pick it up and start to read it but I would always put it down after a couple of pages.
I guess I need to re-read it one of these days to see if my opinion has changed but I'm giving it a 2.
And it's King's favorite work of his...
1, probably my least favorite King book.
Only the gentle are ever really strong.
1 from me too. This is my least favorite King novel. I did finally get through it. Amanda makes some parts bearable and I actually liked Scott, even though he technically wasn't in the story, but I did not like Lisey. I think she was supposed to be a "strong" woman but I did not feel that way about her. She never connected with me in a way that made me care about her story.

It's not my least favorite King novel. Not even bottom 5. But like others I found it a chore to get through. Usually with King books once I get started I want to see how the story goes and what happens to the characters. But I would set this one down for weeks or months at a time and forget all about it and then have to start over b/c I'd forget (or didn't really care) what was actually going on.
I did like the endgame, where she was at the house and being stalked. And I did like the idea of the sudden onset psychosis. But all that crap about the other world and the "long boy" or Booya Moon or whatever it was did nothing for me.
Plus I kept getting confused about the husband. Something with the plot lost me.
Never read. Can anyone provide a spoiler-free summary in ten words or less?

Then again, he did rate Life on Mars as "one of the greatest limited-run (16 episodes) television series I've ever seen — it shuts the American version down completely," something I entirely agree with.LOL, now you see why I am so sceptical about his statements and other nonfiction?
(Ironically, one of the writers of Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes said that 11-22-63 was "a wonderful book", which got me excited until I read some thoughts from you on that novel. Also, I'm skeptical of anything immensely hyped up after my considerable dissapointment of Carnivale.)

the only King book I've ever rated as 1 is Rage. All others have redeeming features. In LS they are: some of the visions, the brother part, but first and foremost, Amanda.
DD: I never said King was hopeless, LOL. As far as 11/22/63 is concerned, I seem to be the only one not to like it, so I really really wish you would read it soon.
Though, of course, I need you to read Desperation much sooner.

No Jean you are not alone. 11/22/63 only rates one hair higher than Lisey's Story for me. I don't disagree that there are some interesting parts to the story but overall did I like it, nope, for a lot a reasons I am willing to talk about in that thread

It really brought to mind a rare effect in fantasy which I've just felt from a few other authors. I kind of like this book, if only because it is so unusual.

I enjoyed it, I agree Lisey is not a very likeable character. But I liked the story itself and the second half especially
