"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King

As long as extra "mules" don't reduce the number of books that others get signed, they generally are just accepted without public frowning, but there is the occasional rolling of the eyes.
The mules are the people who go to an event where multiple pre-signed King books (different titles, but perhaps only ~100 total books) are sold and they try to buy dozens at a time.
Just received a signed copy of the US Bazaar of Bad Dreams, giving me a total of 100 signatures.
