Will the value of a Rage first edition be lower if printed in Canada on the CP page? Opinions?

Yes, because it's not the US 1st edition, it's technically the Canadian edition. It would be lower in the same way that any King Canadian 1st is lower relative to a US or UK 1st.

For Rage, I'd say the value would be at least 50% less than the US book.

I didn't know the Canadian version existed until this auction. Mine is US (checked last night).

If an auction appeared with a very nice copy of Rage for $250 (but didn't show the copyright page) I wouldn't have hesitated to grab it. Why? Until now, all Rage editions I've seen have been USA first (it never went into 2nd print).

This is very interesting. I wonder how many Canadian first editions are in print?

Normally print runs in Canada are much smaller - our population is 10 percent of the USA's - so i expect the Canadian run is likely around the same. So certainly more scarce, but one case where that does not translate into enhanced collectability.

So (just for conversation), what is everyone's opinion on the value of this Canada first print:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/282649014715?rmvSB=true

    $200?

$200. No more. If FINE, perhaps $275.

    I agree!

This is a great conversation of learning for our new members looking for a Rage. Beware and ask questions before buying. Make sure it's the US release (not unless you're looking specifically for the Canada first).

But he's a Barnes & Noble Gold Club member. They don't lie.

I think it's actually a satire piece. From a certain perspective it can be seen as high comedy.

For instance, the fact that he didn't use a new "Signed Copy" sticker but is obviously using one pulled off of another book. Clever! The fact that his "PROOF" of signing is a photo of the Bookstore One signing of End of Watch while claiming that the signing was by Barnes & Noble for the recent IT paperback release. Brilliant!

I left a wonderful report saying that the listing was nothing but contradictory information full of lies. there was never a signing event for IT and the picture of the signing shows a hardcover book not a softcover. Maybe eBay finally pulled one.

Debating whether to say anything about this to the seller, what do you guys think?

So I won two auctions for two different books from the same seller that ended right around the same time. The shipping charges stated on the auction were very high ($15 for one and $18 for the other for just average sized books), but I bid appropriately and the total price for each still ended up a decent buy overall due to the lower bids they went for.

I didn't email the seller to ask about a discount on combined shipping because I decided I would prefer they ship separately anyway as I feel like that offers more protection unless the person really packs it well.

He shipped a couple of days ago (didn't bother to give me a tracking number) but based on USPS it looks like he sent it all in one package anyway. So he shipped it in a way to save himself some money, didn't refund any of my shipping charges, and didn't ask if it was cool for him to combine shipping and charged $33 to ship two hardbacks priority mail.

That seems shady to me, but at the same time I don't know if he technically did anything wrong. The shipping charges were stated on the auction and he shipped them in a reasonable amount of time using the method stated on the auction. He has 100% feedback, so he isn't someone that apparently others have had problems with. Would you say anything to him at this point assuming the books arrive in good shape?

I would wait for the books to arrive. If they are in good condition and in one box, I would request a refund. I would also request that you pay actual shipping (less any handling they may charge). You can go thru Ebay to make it official if the seller doesn't respond.

Also, document everything... the shipping label, the box, the date it arrived, etc.

If the books arrive in good condition, the seller has IMO met their obligation. You didn't mention if the package is being sent Media Mail, or another more expensive method. A polite inquiry for an adjustment never hurts. If the seller declines, you can always mention the issue in your feedback, and in the ratings where it asks about shipping.

Yes but they were two different auctions with two separate shipping charges. If he combines into one box, that's excessive shipping.

If I understand correctly the combined priority mail (1 day, 2 day..?.it makes a difference) is $33. If we knew the weight and the two zip codes, and the tier of priority mail, we could calculate approximate costs.
Until then, it's a lot of opinions with insufficient details.
