I reported the item, and tried for 10 minutes to find somewhere to report the seller generally, with no luck yet. I'll take another shot later. In the meantime, the seller has been writing:

"Again, thanks for bringing to my attention the problem with the listing. I appreciate it.

I do not appreciate your vague accusations and threats, however. I run an honest enterprise. I got fooled with this particular item. I know it happens to the most experienced sellers."

    And then...

"If you think there's any problem with any other signed King book I have listed, please let me know.

    Thanks."
I reported it too. eBay won't care since he pulled the listing.

You can report an item. You can file a case if you sold or bought an item. You cannot report a seller per se.

This seller has quite a bit of flatsigned books. They seem like good signatures to me. I just wonder why one wouldn't go through PSA or JSA to legitimize and even up the price potentially. Curious what your thoughts are.

Here are a couple others, he has more if you check his store:

A COA does not ensure a legitimate signature. Illegitimate sellers use them to try and assure buyers their forgeries are real. It actually has the opposite effect. I will scrutinize the signature even more when a seller advertises a COA.

What about flatsigned books that are taken to JSA/PSA for authentication? Is their process not reputable? What I mean is, I took all my flatsigned books to JSA to get the COA, thought it would be good, even knowing they were good to have the COA/LOA.

They deface the book with a sticker. If they don't affix a sticker then the COA can be used for another book. On the one hand you have a devalued book because of the sticker and on the other you have a random book.

Also they are not as expert as they claim. Their COA would never stand up in court.

It's better to seek multiple opinions from people who are familiar with King. That way you get a consensus opinion. If everyone here thinks the signature is good then it most likely is good. If the opinions vary then you probably don't want it even if it is legit.

I really liked the LOAs by JSA and had mine done that way but without putting the sticker on the book. The LOA has a photo of the signature page, which I thought was a good identifier. It's funny I like having my little binder of LOAs for my flatsigned books, but now I don't feel so cool. :-)

ANYBODY can make a COA or LOA....I can, you can, we all can....might as well print it on toilet paper.

Like Br!an said above....when a seller offers one, more often than not it is a fake.

I didn't even think of someone faking a JSA or PSA LOA. They are fairly complex and the unique identifier/certification ID wouldn't populate in their database. I've definitely seen the shotty COAs by some folks trying to sell forgeries along with their own COA with like Walmart cert paper. I crack up at those.

Am I the only one that likes the LOAs from JSA? It has an image of the sig page, a unique identifier that is tied into their online database, stamped and notorized. Below is a link to a picture of a sample of one. I got mine done even on the books I stood in line to get signed, or a buddy of mine. Even on some of the books I've purchased second hand from the fine folks on here or from Betts. It may be my 'collector' nutsoidness and the fact that I want an LOA in my binder from JSA for all my flatsigned books. Lol.

This is a link to all the King books the seller currently has for sale.

Not counting the baseballs, I cannot find fault with any of them.

Some are ugly....sure...but I truly believe every King signature he or she is offering is the real deal.

When I have time, I'm going to photo all of my flatsigned sigs and get the awesome group here to weigh in. Majority (90%) are known good sigs, either from direct signing, friends, or purchased from Betts, or some of the fine folks here. I have one (out of about 30) that I know for a fact is a fake, but it's tough'ish to spot. I used it as a test bed when I had JSA and PSA audit my books for LOAs. It was a test to see if they were just approving everything. I was pleasantly surprised that both JSA and PSA correctly failed the right one and passed the correct ones.

Could be a fun little game of find the fake. I'll admit I have a few sigs that aren't the prettiest, but they are real. Can't really ask King to not rush some of his signatures can you? I have a smaller handful of about 4 books that look good to me, enough for me to negotiate and purchase. This was before I found this forum.

Anyways, hopefully I can do that by the end of the week. Curious what the gang here thinks.

This sounds like a great idea, and it sounds like you've got a great collection. Perhaps it's time to start a Collection Thread on here?

Thanks. Yeah, I need to start a collection thread. I've got to take some decent pictures. Also, I find myself rearranging my books just about every week. I've got some books coming to me and I wanted to wait for that, rearrange again and then take pics. :-)

I also need to order some slipcases from Jeff for my flatsigned books and 1st Eds.

I believe THIS signed copy of Revival to be a forgery....even if it does come with a COA.

I see what I believe to be "hesitation marks" on the loop the signer used to cross the T with.

    I wan't say that I know it is a forgery...but I am fairly certain.

Same seller has THIS copy of EOW for sale, and I believe it to be legit.

Interesting that the one I believe is a forgery has a COA, and the one I believe to be legit does not have a COA.

Wow Rick. I would have said legit for sure. And now looking at it, I do see the hesitation point. If a forgery, it's a bloody good one.

I'm glad you posted this. Those 'types' of COAs give me the heebee jeebies, where there is no real legitimate backing or process. It's just some random letter saying 'I approve this message' so to speak. Anyone could make that or state that.

However, I know I'm sort of alone on this, but with PSA and JSA there is quite a process and the ID process and LOA issued is quite nice. I almost view it as a registry too. One of the main reasons I submitted all my flatsigned through them. They are all in a database with a snapshot of the signature and book/edition info. I have all the LOAs in a nice binder/catalog.

Maybe it's a little silly and a bit overkill, but I dig it.

These 'self-certified' COAs, I agree, make me wanna run. However, some of the signatures do look real. I still need to take pics of my sigs for the guess the fake game. Hopefully next week.

There is something about it (beyond the hesitation marks) that just feels wrong to me. Like I said, I won't get on a soapbox and declare it a definite fake, but I would caution against it.

You've got me looking at it more with a critical eye. The thing that stands out to me is the loops all seem too curved/smooth. Almost like it seems too neat.
