Looking at this guy's other auctions, he sounds really fishy. He's got a "first edition/first printing" of Dracula (allbeit it's a first printing from a different publisher and dates it as 1912 instead of the actual publication date of 1897) and is including a letter from Bram Stoker and a signed bookplate by Stoker. Did they even have bookplates back then?

I think he used a bookplate so he could practice until he got one close. Not VERY close, by the way, but he tried. Reported.

I have a question. Just asking for opinions, please don't go after the seller.

This auction for a UK Under the Dome S/L #76 is my number. It sits in my closet. The seller is stating a sample signed page but is this right? I know Tomas has my page on his website to show what the page looks like but again, it was a little strange to see my UTD S/L number on Ebay.

The seller does indicate that the limitation page is a sample and that the volume is still in its original shrinkwrap. I think it's okay, but I think it would have been better not to have included the picture at all.

I bought a new SOD Volume Two S/l recently. I asked the seller to package very carefully as the book was large and could be damaged in shipping. I paid extra for Expedited shipping and proper handling.
They ended up shoving it in a flat rate box that barely covered the book end to end.
Needless to say, the results were predictable.

It's a shame that sellers of more expensive books aren't more careful in their packaging. This happens SO often.

And then there are the sellers of less expensive volumes who take extra care. My wife ordered, from a seller via Amazon, a book of Chinese scenic photographs. (She just returned from a 16-day tour of China and saw this book, but didn't have room to bring it back.) Her total cost, including shipping, was $6.65. The book was packed extremely well and came in without a mark.

John, I know exactly what you mean. When I do get a book that is packaged properly, I'm over the moon thrilled with it.

I got a signed/numbered Robert Silverberg edition from Subterranean Press yesterday. The book itself was in plastic, then in bubble-wrap. That was placed in the center of a large box that was then filled with "popcorn" packing things, all around it - sides, top and bottom.

The book arrived in pristine condition. That's the way it should be done!

    Jerome,

That just makes me sick to my stomach.

John, that would be me, when I sent out the copies of UTD to forum members last year I think I added 2lbs to each box with all the extra packaging I did. After seeing for myself what shipping can do to a book I tend to go a bit over board these days.

So sorry to hear of your damage, Jerome. I have sold 3 copies of SOD 1 in the past and have had to ship them in the larger weight-based Priority packaging precisely for that reason.

Hey, I got my copy yesterday also! Did you think it was odd that the color plates were reprinted as black and whites within a couple of pages of the original? Strange move for SP.

Speaking of their shipping though, that extra careful packaging came at a steep learning curve for them. I had a S/L come from them a while back (thank goodness it was not one for my matching number sets) and the book was shipped in a bubbled envelope only. The post office somehow managed to fold the entire book in half so that the top of the book was almost touching the bottom... pretty impressive for ~400pg book.

It was shortly after that I noticed the three layers of protection come into play. :-)

I think it is probably OK but it does look a bit "off." Could you post a larger, clearer picture? Preferably one that shows the signature and the entire page?
