I loved the Machinist Heather, anyone that says Bale can't act needs to watch that film.
I had to watch it twice and I loved it both times (in fact, i now want to watch it again)
@DD - yeah, i wasn't 100% sure as I just caught the advert tail end
Philip Seymour Hoffman
Christian Bale

I like Bale. Voted Philip Seymour Hoffman. He really should win.
How is Bale winning? I like him and all but compared to Phillip Seymour Hoffman, about the greatest actor of the past 20 years? No contest, none whatsoever.

Voted Hoffman.

This is getting a little too close for comfort...
I think Bale is an amazing actor. And I said it in the other thread, not that I think Hoffman is a bad actor because I don't, but I do think he is highly overrated. That is just my opinion of course.

Has anybody seen Rescue Dawn? Bale does a great job in that one too.

2 more for Hoffman, please! Otherwise, we'd end up with the greatest injustice since Arrested Development beat Life on Mars in the Greatest TV Tournament!
(And before I get more flamed than the Human Torch saving the day in a DC comic, I'd just like to say that in both cases, the nominees are great, but to me, there can only be one clear winner!)

Haven't seen Life on Mars but Arrested Development is a fantastic show.

You need to rectify this asafp! I've watched Arrested Development, thought it was hilarious, possibly one of the funniest sitcoms I've ever watched...but the original Life on Mars is...well, you only need to read the quote in my signature to have an idea of just how perfect it really is!

Exactly my point, iowabob: why would you want a marvel hero to save the day if you're reading a DC comic (or vice versa)? It's like Picard coming to the Doctor's rescue, it's just not done!

I'm sure it's great but I doubt it'll top Six Feet Under/The Sopranos as my favourite show

Perhaps not. You'll probably just have to settle for Six Feet Under/The Sopranos/Life on Mars as your joint favourite shows!

I finally watched The Machinist today after seeing some of your recommendations. It was pretty good and kept me guessing. And dear God, Bale was so thin!
A NEW GAME BEGINS
And as an actor do you not think he nailed that part?
I think he definitely was good in the role, but I've been actors in similar roles who have handled the reality-vs.-insanity mentality with a bit more complexity. If I hadn't had that to compare to, I might have had more appreciation for Bale's performance.
A NEW GAME BEGINS
And Christian Bale moves on!
